The Process of Removing Gemstones From Settings

Sponsor: Jewelers Refining Group, Inc.sparkling gem

Sometimes, it takes a combination of something old and something new to get the perfect ring. In some cases, people love a gemstone that is set in an old ring but want to update the ring itself. This may be triggered by a personal preference for a certain type of metal or the positioning of the stone in the old setting.

This is a process that is best left to professional jewelers. They have studied gemstones and know how to remove them without damaging them or changing their appearance. Some jewelers provide this service for free to those who have continually done business with them. Others may charge about $10 per stone. It is important to get prices before leaving the stone with a selected jeweler. No matter what they charge, they will likely ask to see the stone first to determine what must be done to remove it from its setting.

They have to clean the gemstones after this process to make them safe for other uses. They do not discard the solution that contains the metal. Instead, they use another chemical to remove the fine metals from the first solution. Then they melt the metals into bars and measure the purity of the bars.

Although many people try to do this process at home themselves by pending the gemstone prongs and removing the stone, it is not recommended. This do-it-yourself technique does not preserve the stone. It defeats the purpose of removing the stone in the first place.

CZ earrings free side viewYou pay shipping and handling, don’t fear they have a calculator there for the cost, for one pair the shipping and handling charge for me will be $5.95 and I can add on optional insurance to the order for an additional $1.10.

And there is a limit of 3 orders per household, I may try to squeeze out enough from the debit card (and hubby) to order 3, that would only run me $13.85 and the insurance (if I chose to do it) would run me an additional $1.10 (again). 🙂

CZ earrings free front viewNot bad have a few little gifts to sock away for birthdays, holidays and special occasions. You may know by now that I like to keep a special box with gift items stashed away in it for such times as I need a little extra gift for someone. Well, why don’t you start a gift box too? I learned this habit from my Mother, when I was younger she had a box of gifts stored up in the attic for gift giving and for when us kids were invited to birthday parties. It was such a great idea, that I started doing the same myself and I continue on today. Hey I gave a cute little blinged out character key chain that I to a neighbor who invited us over to her house for an Easter Sunday Party this year, it was nice to have a hostess gift all ready in my house waiting for the prefect time for gifting. So why not go over and pick up not just one, but all three Simulated Diamond Earrings so you can start up or add to your gift box.
