Pain Relief From Tommie Copper, Does it really Help? Women’s Compression Tights Review & Giveaway

Tommie Copper Review & Giveaway

Edit 7/24/14:  Hi There, I have a review and Giveaway of a $50 Tommie Copper Gift Certificate… good through: Aug. 11, 2014! You can find this Review and Giveaway here: http://www.honestlymariah.com/his-hers-tommie-copper-review-giveaway/

Tommy Copper Logo

Hello all, I was recently asked, by the lovely people at Tommie Copper, if I would review their latest release of the Women’s Compression Tights and of course I was not only honored to have the invite, but I was also very excited! I have had lower back pain all my life. The lower back pain along with the Fibromyalgia and the nerve damage to my lower back and hip pain, from an accident I was in about 11 years ago, it’s been virtually impossible to sleep, unless I pass out from total exhaustion! Some of you may have seen the commercials for Tommie Copper with Montel Williams, he too suffers from pain and he recommends Tommie Copper. The commercials with Montel Williams were my first exposure to the product and had me very interested in trying them out for myself as I did about a year and a half ago. The latest big name associated with Tommie Copper is Justin Gatlin as this Gold Medalist was on the tv show “Extra” handing out Tommie Copper products to fans… you can see the clip if you go to YouTube and look up Tommie Copper. I tried to load the clip here but it would first load to the correct clip and then change to the Happy Holidays YouTube (that is below) from Tommie Copper. *shrug* You may recall that in June of last year, I was fortunate enough to be invited to review the Tommie Copper Women’s Short Sleeved Shirt, and I loved it, it helped with my pain from a bad shoulder, another accident, many years back, messed it up and of course again the fibromyalgia and Lupus Pain the shirt helped a lot and continues to do so today. The shirt kept me from the doctor’s office for a steroid shot in my shoulder for some time now.

women's compression wear shirtI’ve received letters about my past review with some questions:

The readers have asked me what I still think and feel about the product and about its longevity… the shirt is still working well, I even had to add a tan shirt to my Tommie Copper Collection in the past year. I noticed that the tan shirt is no longer being sold, I suspect that I know why… the only problem I noticed with the tan shirt is that a patina has developed on the underarms… not where you want a pretty copper patina. Lol This Patina is not problematic as I do not wear the shirt alone, I wear it under my clothing, even in the summer. Yes in the summer I continue to feel cool and dry, even with the Tommie Copper on… it does indeed wick away the dampness, even in a home without Air Conditioning or a Swamp Cooler and dealing with well over 100 degree Fahrenheit temperatures as we experienced this past summer with record-breaking temps.

Receiving and looking at the Tights:

Picture of Mariah's Tommie Copper Compression Tights (Black) I received the Ladies Compression Tights in the mail, the material looks the same as on the shirts, the stitching is perfect and it has the Tommie Copper Logo on the hip. The tights, in my humble opinion, are more like leggings as they continue down to the ankle and do not have feet on them.

Trying on the Tights:

I have to admit I was a little worried about the compression as just touching the hips, as of late, wearing jeans that fit brings on pain. I found that the sizing and compression was perfectly matched to my problems as it didn’t irritate the area. The only irritation I got was while I slide the waist band, and not stretching it over my hips, once the waist band was up where it is supposed to be, I am fine. I found it quite easy to get into, no struggling and straining my shoulders to get into them. I have nerve damage (sciatica) in my lower back and hip nerve pain from an accident, the Tommie Copper Compression Tights helped , nothing really takes the pain away completely (just as it is with anything for pain, like medications) but it helps me.

Wearing the Tights:

Tommie Copper Ladies Compression Tights The material is such that I can easily wear a pair of pants over them and no one is all the wiser, there is no bulk to them at all, it’s like a second skin. Looking in the mirror, I don’t see why I cannot wear this with a big shirt for working out or walking around the house and still being presentable to the public if a knock came at my door. I could even see wearing these with a short dress that is in my closet, that is a little too short to wear without something over my legs. While wearing the Tights I found that it took a few days wearing them to start seeing relief. I even sleep in these tights, and I must say that I tend to sweat at night, with my hubby and 2 little dogs in bed keeping me very warm, and I have noticed that I don’t feel the moisture as it wicks it off just like the shirts do. I have slept better at night when I wear these and I now live in these tights, taking them off just to wash and dry them. I hope to add another pair and maybe a pair of their shorts to my wardrobe soon. I have not found anything as supportive for my Fibromyalgia pain as Tommie Copper has been and it even took down my nerve pain some. I still cannot sleep on my sides for very long, as I prefer to sleep, but if I turn onto my sides at night I have a longer time before I wake up in pain going down my legs, hey every little bit helps when you are living with chronic pain.

Recommendations for Washing:

Avoid using dryer sheets or fabric softener with your Tommie Copper, this gets in the way of the copper and this is part of the key to the product working so wonderfully.

Would I recommend Tommie Copper Tights to people?

Yes I sure would, the product helps with pain, even eased up my nerve pain some. People that experience nerve pain know that this is a very difficult pain to get an ounce of help with. I found the products from Tommie Copper are great quality and the fact that they last such a long time is a big plus (again I have one of their shirts and it is still holding up well). Tommie Copper have taken the light tan-colored products off their site, a sign that they noticed a problem arising and listened to their customers…I have a feeling that it was the patina (the copper turned green is a patina) from the copper that showed in those light colored fabrics that caused them to get rid of that color in the fabric. Hey the patina on the older shirt of mine does prove that they have somehow managed to get the copper into their fabulous products! Lol If you experience pain, from straining, sprains, Fibromyalgia and/or are a “spoonie” like me, I highly recommend Tommie Copper, get one product to try it out and I bet you will be back to pick up more. Nothing has left me with the Compression I needed for my pain, the copper content and yet being able to move well at the same time as Tommie Copper has.

Genuinely Nice – The Definition of Nyce (The DON) Hug Me T-Shirt – Review & Giveaway

Sorry folks this giveaway has ended, however the Great work at The DON continues on. Please read on.

Added January 30th 2014:

I have a special coupon code just for you, this will get you 20% off at the Don Shop! Use Coupon Code: MARIAHL You can CLICK HERE to go straight to The DON Shop. Check out page 2 at their shop for my very favorite t shirts…. hug me and I smile at strangers (these are so me, and I bet you know someone that these t shirts would be perfect for).

The DON LogoI was lucky enough to receive an invite to review a T-shirt from The DON (Definition of Nyce). I when I received the email that said “a street wear brand dedicated to promoting positive messages.” I just had to visit their website and when I did, I swear if I could have ever managed to turn cartwheels, I would have at this time. I instantly understood what this company stood for and I felt a a special bond with them. What can I say? I was truly touched and inspired to review the “Hug Me” t-shirt from such a wonderful company.

Hug Me T-shirt from The DONEver heard of warm fuzzies? This company is a Warm Fuzzy Company, spreading those positive things all around and their T-shirts show it too! I won’t go into it now but there is a character for warm fuzzies, the character was a little furball with eyes on it, it represent the philosophy of The Warm Fuzzies. The warm fuzzies are little creatures that send the very feelings that they were named for throughout your body when you get a complement, when you get a hug or someone smiles warmly at you… you even get this inside of you when you do these things for others.

This is a Warm Fuzzy, see my post to find out what a warm fuzzy is exactly
Warm Fuzzy

I thought I would look up Warm Fuzzies online and the Definition as given by Urbandictionary.com is:

“The warm, pleasant sensations one feels in the stomach and heart area when emotionally moved by an act of goodwill or love.“

I can go on and on about this company, I feel that this company was made especially for people like me… I am a hugger and I smile at strangers all the time. I’ve even gotten job offers from local businesses just because they always saw me being friendly and smiling and talking with the other customers, even helping them out if they looked lost. Quite frankly it is a game with me too, the bigger and broader the smile I have on my face the more you will know I am trying to see if I can make someone who looks a bit grumpy smile too. 🙂 But I call that game the wicked side of me. 😉
Puppy Dogs hugs & Smiles
Even though I am quite sick, I have been accused of being well. It’s bad enough having an invisible illness, but when you smile and remain friendly despite your illness it makes some people wonder. Lol I am at the very base of my being a People Person, joking with strangers to try and get a grin, giving hugs to family, friends, neighbors and yes even to strangers. Besides who wants to be around a grumpy person that shows that they are in pain all the time, when you do that you just spread the pain and you are not spreading the joy that life should be full of… this is all a part of why this company has touched my heart.

Okay this post isn’t about me, though I’ve taken it into my heart that this company was made for me. Lol So I will get back to the main topic now. Lol

Me (Mariah) in my Hug Me Tee from The DON
Me in my Hug Me Tee from The DON

I received my lovely t-shirt from the folks at The Definition of Nyce and I have to say the quality is fantastic, the fabric is soft to the touch, no irritating tags to deal with and the women’s t-shirt I received fits just lovely and is very flattering to wear. The quality of the graphics is above par, placed on the T-shirt to perfection (not crooked) and it has not distorted or cracked on me, even with my large chest, like many do on me. And the Tee Shirt isn’t too short either as some companies seem to cut their costs by making them a bit to short, so if you are wearing the lower rise jeans with your tee, you don’t have to worry about showing off your muffin top. 🙂

This company has some fantastic articles and t-shirts on their website, I wish I had been there to participate in their hug event earlier this year… I would have loved it! 🙂 And I would have loved to have met people from their company and the other like-minded participants.

Keep Love Alive Tee-Shirt

I have to tell you that if I owned a business, I would love to have their t-shirts as the dress code for my friendly place of business… whether I owned a Health Food & supplement store or even defaulted to owning my own Shop with my work in Cosmetology this would be my uniform of choice… of course though my customers always knew that if they were to broke to tip me for my service, I still treated them the same (as compared to some of co-workers who avoided working with customers that didn’t tip), instead this cosmetologist accepted a hug as tip and that was just fine with me. Hey even to see a sudden bounce in their step as they walked away from my chair was enough of a tip to keep me full of warm fuzzies for the rest of the day.

Long Sleeve Never Stop Loving T-shirtThey have had “I smile at strangers” t-shirt in their store recently, I hope they get them back. They have Keep Love Alive T-Shirts, And the cute little Rhino Character T-shirts that say “Hug Me” as well as, something new that I would love to have someday a lovely long sleeved off the shoulder shirt that says “Never Stop Loving”.

If we could all only learn to touch one another’s lives, give people a reason to smile and feel good about themselves and if we treat each other well spreading warm fuzzies everywhere we go, what a difference this could make in the world. I sure believe in that, and I believe that our children could greatly benefit from our teaching them about this philosophy too. This is what the company “The Definition of Nyce” is all about.

LeRoy Memorial T-shirt from The DONI just noticed on their facebook page that the wonderful folks at The DON have lost someone near and dear to their hearts folks and this man’s family can use your help and support. If you buy the T-shirt that they custom made for his family at $20 each, you will help them through this rough time and expenses of his funeral etc. Please do consider purchasing a tee shirt to help Le Roy’s family out. Thank you.

Now onto a lovely giveaway for our readers… The DON is nice enough to sponsor a giveaway where 4 people will win a T-shirt like mine! Enter to win and share this with your friends.

Since we don’t have the money here for monthly fees, Rafflecopter is limiting me on what information I can share with you in their application now. And I am so touched by this wonderful company that I want to share all the places you can reach them at in here for those that don’t enter giveaways. Please look them up also at these places (oh and yes, I am limited by Google on how many links we can put in the posts, if we have more then one we are penalized so these are not clickable, I apologize, I know that this is a real pain).

Cold n Flu Hints & Tips- Kleenex Freebie (code with purchase) & a little Giveaway

Did you know that in the US colds hit an average of about 62 Million cases each year? And for the flu in the US an average of 5% up to 20% of our population is effected… this hospitalizes more than 200,000 people from seasonal flu-related complications each year!

Mariah & Kleenex Picture

What do you do when a cold or flu gets the best of you or your family?

I was taught the customary chicken noodle soup and vitamin C (in the form of orange juice) from family. But the biggest help as a little girl, was maybe not the product used but the love I felt as My Mother would sit on the edge of my bed and spread Mentholadum ointment on my chest it did seem to help clear up my breathing. But I tell you, there was nothing like feeling so loved and cared for as this loving gesture and the soft loving voice of my Mother as she put on the ointment for me.

Later on, as a young lady, My mother taught me to have my head covered with a towel over steaming water (please be careful doing this and make sure your face is far enough above the hot water, source of the steam, so as not to burn your face… the usual rule of thumb is to keep your head at least 12 inches above the steaming water) and in that water have some Mentholatum. Later I added to this solution by using Swiss Kriss to steam my face, it not only makes a great facial steam, but I felt it added to the benefits of the breathing in the Mentholatum.

Now, over the years I’ve added to what the family taught me and I want to share them with you here too:

Personally I tend to hit up the zinc gluconate lozenges myself, this is something I’ve done since reading an article one year in the 1980’s about a study at a big university that stated that it could shorten your cold by 3 days when you suck on these. Back then you had to go to a health food store to purchase them and they weren’t flavored well. Thankfully years later this has caught on and now you can commonly find these in not only drug stores but your grocery stores too.

A fellow Cosmetologist felt sorry for me while I was working with a bad cold one day in the 1980’s and he went home for lunch, come to find out he called his mother, who was Lebanese, long before lunch time… he came back to the shop and she had cooked me up a whole bunch of very spicy food. He set the table in the breakroom for the two of us and he kept feeding me, saying how it will cure my cold. To this day when I get sick, cold, flu or what have you I now crave spicy food!

Again while working as a Cosmetologist a doctor once wrote me out a prescription for cold medicine and on the other prescription he wrote me his recipe for hot toddies with an order to have one before bed to help me sleep. I sit down with my kleenex box close at hand while I drink down the Hot Toddy quickly, I was told it was important to drink it fast while still quite hot and that makes my nose run, makes me break out in a sweat too. My husband has quite a different recipe for hot toddies, he makes his with Tea! I thought it sounded strange the first time he made me one, but I really love it… now the recipe has been changed from the Lipton type brown tea to green or white tea for further health benefits of the tea.

I would love to share this with you…

Kleenex LogoI am probably like a majority of you now and I don’t ask for tissues anymore, I default to asking for Kleenex.

With Kleenex, when I know I will be blowing my nose often, I know that it will be gentle on my nose and that they are always making new selections of products for me to use and to try.

Here are several freebies you can get from Kleenex when you get your Code in specially marked boxes of Kleenex

I feel that it’s not only important to take care of yourselves when you get sick with the cold and flu, but to share your caring with others, let them know that you care and that too is a very touching and healing thing for a person to know during an illness. It seems that Kleenex feels the same way as they are offering these two Free with the purchase of specially marked packages of Kleenex.

Lean on this Tower for your Holiday Shopping List – Review and Giveaway

Deck the Halls Snack Tower

This Tower doesn’t lean, in more ways then one!

This tower of goodies, won’t help you lose weight, but you won’t lose sleep either when you think of what to get for those hard to buy for treat lovers on your list.

I was lucky enough to receive an invitation to try out the “Deck the Halls Snack Tower” of Goodies from GiftTree.com, for our holiday List of Reviews and Giveaways. How sweet it is too! And a wonderful cure for the Holiday Shopping List Woes!

Measuring the "Deck The Halls Snack Tower"

This impressive tower stands about 14 inches high. With boxes that are sturdy and nicely decorated for the Winter and Holiday Season. The box with my tower in it arrived in excellent condition to my home, and it was fully assembled, complete with a nicely tied Silk Ribbon to hold the boxes all together. The Tower came perfectly ready for gift giving, no assembly required, so it could be shipped straight to the gift recipient. The outside of the box has an area that lets the recipient get a gift message from the sender, and when you open your box you see a notice to look at that outside label and peal off the top to reveal your gift note.

How nice is that, a gift that keeps on giving (and I am not talking about partaking in the treats from the gift box and the calories you may later need to burn off either)…

Inside the box I not only found the tower but a little folded envelope that has the words “Complementary Scissors” on it, when you open that up there is cute but sturdy little pair of scissors so that you didn’t have to go dig up a pair to open and enjoy your treats! I will save these scissors for my embroidery work, when I get the time to get back to the tons of crafting projects I plan to do “someday.” The tower package also came with a little card stating that “it’s a privilege to be part of your special occasion” and it is not just a card folks but a gift card! This little gift card is for $10 off your order of $50 or more from Gift Tree, this one expires December 31, 2013, so plenty of time to use it!

The Deck the Halls Snack Tower in my Livingroom
The Deck the Halls Snack Tower in my Livingroom

Just what you’ve been waiting for…the treats.

The boxes are full of a different goodies in each and every box. Here is what I found in my boxes, from smallest to largest box:

Smallest Box to Largest:

BBQ Almonds (just a palm full, but might good!)

Malted Milk Balls

Candy Fruit Slices (like gumdrops in fruit flavors) – the site says candied berries but that is not what mine had in it.

Peppermint Divinity (I love making Divinity, it used to be my one of my Christmas jobs as a teenager, along with making Fudge for gift giving)

Red Velvet Cookies

“Confetti” Dark Chocolate with Almonds Caramel Corn

Okay so we sampled all of the goodies here and ate them up:

We started out with saving the Red Velvet Cookies ( I tried them they were good) but hubby loves Red Velvet Cake so he wanted a naughty Breakfast of them with his coffee for one morning, he is saving it for Sunday Breakfast.

I personally thought that the BBQ Almonds and the Candy Fruit Slices were my favorite.

It is hard to beat homemade Divinity, and this is really good stuff for pre-made but I still intend to make my own for gift giving… but I love the idea of crushed candy canes on top like these have. The malted milk balls were good, however not enough malted flavor for me.

And the Dark Chocolate With Almonds Caramel Corn? Well, I was so very excited by it and I don’t believe I am saying this to much of the Dark Chocolate and while chocolate coating on it, you couldn’t get all of the taste of the caramel corn with it smothered. I love chocolate but I also adore caramel corn, I would have loved to taste both at once with just a drizzle of the chocolate. Also with this one, please take out the “Dehumectant” packet in it, I went to finish off the popcorn that I had started days before and yes it kept the bits of caramel corn crisp but I didn’t take it out and with my numb hands (from nerve damage in my neck) I put it in my mouth and gasped as I pulled it out! Not good… take that out before letting the kids at it please!!!!

Natures Best Gift Tower from GiftTreeIdeas for the towers on their site (not just the one I reviewed):

If it’s not for you, why not gather one or two together with your own ribbon and add to a homemade gift basket or to go with another gift you’ve picked out for your recipient(s) and spread out the tower? Why not?

If you are going to enjoy it yourself or at home with your family, why not open up the packages in the boxes, put the goodies in nice little bowls etc, saving the boxes. These boxes are nicely decorated and sturdy, they would work well for gift giving and you wouldn’t even need to wrap the gifts up, just get some ribbon and tie it around the box, making a beautiful little box with a gift in it for your recipients and if you give gifts in it you won’t have to worry about picking up all the messy wrapping paper and the boxes all nest nicely together for storage and reuse. 🙂

Champagne Gift Basket Happy New Year!Turning the subject away from the Tower and looking at the Gift Tree Site,

I have looked around the gift tree site several times and even purchase from them before for gift giving for any time of the year. The prices are comparable and sometimes even cheaper then other places like this online and they have a great assortment to choose from. The gifts are easy to navigate through, as they list occasions as well as types of gifts, who they are for and even price ranges. You are sure to find something that fits to bill for your gift giving needs here.

Happy Holidays Friends, this is part of our Holiday Gift List/Christmas List so one of you can win this yummy tower for yourself… what are you waiting for enter to win now! 🙂

Good Luck!

Tango $50 Gift Card – Review and Giveaway

Tango Card Logo

Hi there folks, here we go again, a lovely giveaway for you all, and back by popular demand… 2 people will win a $50 Tango Gift Card!

I was tickled pink when my friend Joan (from my former blog “Joan And Mariah’s Reviews”) let me know she got me this same review that she had done a while back. I recalled that it was very popular with our readers and I am very excited to be able to offer 2 people a great $50 Gift Card to help them with their online shopping, be it for themselves or for Christmas Gifts.

Picture of the Target Gift Card with the Target Dog on itI saw how this works first hand, you take your gift and choose which place you wish to use it for, I was personally torn between Target and Amazon. I Finally went with Amazon and then I got to choose who to send this too via email, and I chose myself I’ve longed for some things online and it was between good Professional Shampoo and Conditioner (I’ve tried non pro shampoo and conditioner for the past 2 years, due to a very limited budget and so far they all make me break out) or some good popcorn oil and popcorn salt to make my popcorn maker make the flavor of popcorn like the maker looks like it should make. Okay, well, I can get get the Shampoo & Conditioner perhaps in the near future as I have some haircuts to do (once my shoulder heals enough) and will have a few tips to add up together to do this.

Mariah's Popcorn PopperSome of you that follow me on Facebook & Twitter may recall my posting my Birthday gift from 3 years ago, a cute popcorn machine that looks like the kind you find at a concession stand. The problem is you need to have the right ingredients to make the popcorn taste as yummy as the popcorn you buy at the concession stand… well I had researched it a long time ago and added the oil and salt to my wish list and placed in it the bulk packages for the oil so I don’t have to worry about ordering in a long time, since I haven’t seen any of these products to order locally. Okay after back and forth debating in my head, I finally chose Amazon for the popcorn ingredients that I need to make my popcorn popper really great! lol

Picture of the Black Amazon Gift Card with the big A on itI went to Amazon, took the email I sent myself from Tango and entered the code in it for the Amazon Gift Card. Lovely it worked, and with the Super Saver deal at Amazon I was able to get free shipping (although it takes longer) on my items. Tango made it so easy and I must admit when I saw I could divide up the $50 gift card from Tango, I was tempted to divide it up and save myself shipping some Christmas gifts this year and just have Tango email the chosen gift card to people on my list. However since I was done with a majority of the Christmas Shopping for this year, I decided it was time to get something I wanted for 3 years now. 🙂

I am pleased as punch with Tango and how easy it was to work with them and the have a great variety of Gift Cards to choose from. And the cards online give you a huge variety of choices to choose from, or just order Tango Cards as gifts too!

Here are your Gift Card choices at Tango:

1-800 Flowers, Amazon, Facebook, Fandango, Gap, Groupon, Home Depot, iTunes, Nike, Pottery Barn, REI, Rixty, SpaFinder, Starbucks, Target, Zappos, Buy a Tango Card.

I think that Tango with the online gift card is the best way to go (with the price of shipping right now,) for gift giving over the miles this holiday season… just send out the gift card via email to those on your list this year. Please, just make sure to send the gift card recipient a personal email first to notify him or her of the email they will get with a gift card in it… so they don’t delete the email thinking it’s a spam or a site with a virus or something trying to get them to log in!
