Ocean to the Rescue! – Review and Giveaway

Oh yes you say, now Mariah is going bonkers and she’s reviewing “the Ocean”, “which one Mariah? Atlantic, Pacific?” No no no, my friends, I lost my marbles a long time ago, but that’s beside the point,  I am reviewing products from Ocean, a company.

Ocean Logo & Products for Sinus help

I want to introduce you to a company called Ocean, that has products that spoke to me right away when I was invited to test them out. It was in a very timely manner too (more about that later.)

First off the products are for your sinus’ and I have a chronic condition, called Chronic Sinusitis. I have dealt with this condition since my 20’s. In my 30’s my parents told me about sinus irrigation… at first I was given a recipe that my parents doctor recommended, which was the beginning of my sinus irrigation adventures. I won’t go into the details here as I seldom used this as I was to sniff in the homemade concoction from my cupped hands and blow out. Yes, it is as gross as you may think, but if you suffer from sinusitis you know you get desperate for relief, however it felt like I was trying to drown myself!

Next came to the drug stores in the US another way to do this  treatment. I later discovered this treatment has been used for ages in ancient Hindu practice of Ayurveda (I watch the Discovery Channel). In the stores came “Neti Pots” (looks like a teapot used to pour the solution into your sinuses where it drains out the other nostril) and premixed packets that you just add your tap water to, for real proper and thorough irrigation. Now this is the method I used for years, although a few problems can happen when mixing this solution with tap water:

1) It stings if,

a) you’re not used to it
b) if you mixed it too strong
c) if not thoroughly mixed

2) it uses plain tap water!

Ok now to a great Modern treatment from Ocean… I was asked to test the products, just when I needed a new solution to my sinusitis the most!

Ocean Complete Sinus Irrigation Product

I was introduced to  Ocean Complete Sinus Irrigation. This was great timing, as had I stopped using the Neti Pot with the home mixed solution! Why? Because I started hearing about a brain eating Amoeba, first it was a young woman that had gone swimming and inhaled some water. They say that the shortest route to the brain for this Amoeba is right there, in the sinus cavity with inches to go. The young woman died within days. But not to worry it was in the wild, this brain eating amoeba. Well as horrified as I was, I happily continued to use my Neti Pot, after all the Amoeba is in the wild, in rivers etc.

Then came the disturbing news! The brain eating Amoeba is in some tap water! OMG, and the newest Neti Pot mix says to boil your water first and wait for it to cool down before mixing with the solution. Well, I did my irrigation at night-time before bed and was too lazy to boil the water & wait for it to cool before going through my routine.

Then all my fears realized, upon my further research into the guy that got tap water in his nose, and got the brain eating Amoeba. The research revealed “A man used a Neti pot & it’s believed the Amoeba was living in his home’s water system.” OMG my fears all came to realization, and so did the wording “it is important to boil water first before using their Neti pot, If users do follow these instructions, there is a slim chance they would be exposed to the Amoeba.” Slim Chance? Slim Chance… no not what this gal is willing to bet on then… slim chance, not good enough!

So now you see why I thought the invite to use the Ocean Sinus Irrigation came in a timely manner? No??? Oh I see, I forgot to tell you, it’s premixed, no addition of any water needed! Thank you Ocean, your products make me feel safe once again to irrigate and sleep well at night.

Ocean Premium Saline Nasal SprayAlong with the Sinus Irrigation came the Ocean Premium Saline Solution, a moisturizing non medicated nasal spray.  The Saline Nasal spray I bring with me when I go to the hospital as the air their tends to be super dry and this helps me a lot. I just know that it would also be super for airplane travel, in a small travel size… speaking of which Colorado is very dry for visitors that are unaccustomed to our dry climate, so I should pick up extras for out of state family and friends when they come to visit. 🙂

Here is some information on Ocean, that I was supplied with:

Many allergists recommend the use of a non-medicated saline nasal spray, like OCEAN, as a safe way to thin the mucus and rid the nasal passages of harmful irritants.  Unlike medicated sprays, saline nasal allergy products may be applied as often as needed.  Plus, they are frequently recommended as co-therapy with nasal steroids and other prescription medications which can have a drying effect on the nose.

Here are several products in the OCEAN line that are perfect for all ages:

 Ocean Complete:

  • Two-in-one saline solution for sinus and nasal relief of congestion
  • White tip contains the saline mist for nasal moisturizing
  • Orange tip contains an even bigger saline stream for sinus irrigation
  • Pre-mixed, easy to use, and non-medicated

  Ocean Premium:

  • Perfect for people suffering from dry nasal passages, nose bleeds, nasal congestion, or sinusitis
  • Best-selling nasal spray “recommended by most doctors coast to coast”

Ocean For Kids:  Ocean for Kids

  • Specifically formulated for newborns to children up to 12 years of age
  • Perfect for children suffering from dry nasal passages, nose bleeds, nasal congestion, or sinusitis

Now thanks to Ocean, you can enter to win the Ocean Complete with the tips for nasal irrigation and moisturizing and the Ocean Premium also for moisturizing dry nasal passages. Good luck my friends and please take care of your health wisely.

BH Cosmetics – Win Contour & Blush Palette and the 32 Color Lip Palette

Hi there folks, have you visited BH Cosmetics yet? Do you know all about them? Their makeup palettes are professional grade and high pigmented. I had not had any idea of where people were getting such lovely colors for their makeups in all the fun pictures online of creative faces. I finally found them while searching for highly pigmented eyeshadows once upon a time. Back then, around February or so, I was fortunate enough to “Like” them on Facebook and they ran a giveaway on there. I was fortunate enough to win and here I was about ready to order the very same palette from them that I won! 🙂 I love their eyeshadows and I was so lucky when they invited me to take a look at my choice of some of their products and possibly do a review and giveaway! My collection eventually will be complete with their products, the way my luck has been going and I find that so exciting. I just know that I need to order more products from them.

BH Cosmetics Contour and Blush Palette

I finally decided on what I wanted to try, the easy one was the Contour and Blush Palette that I had been eyeballing since Winter. The next choice to help round out my BH Cosmetics collection here was for the 32 Color Lip Palette. The products arrived in no time at all within a big box that had all the items cushioned well for shipping. I love the care that they take in shipping, with some companies out there you never know what condition your beauty products will be in when they arrive, for instance I just had a large order that I received from my favorite Beauty Supply place, that I had been going to since I first saw them while I was an instructor for professional Cosmetologists, Salon Manager and Stylist… this is the first time I decided to order from them through the mail and this will be the last time. Everything in that Beauty Supply Box was loose in the package with only a crumpled up piece of paper on top… and things leaked and boxes crushed etc. Like I said, I love the care that BH Cosmetics takes in packaging and shipping their products. 🙂

I immediately had to open the products, which are in the nice compact like cases, the cases are textured, unlike the glossy smooth case for the eyeshadows I have were in. On initial look, inside the cases, I was in love with all the lip colors, I then looked at the Contour and Blush Palette and wasn’t sure if these were the colors I would choose for myself. Upon looking out in the natural light I realize that the colors are neutral enough that they could work on me with my warm skin tone after all.

BH Cosmetics Lip Palette

I then put on the contour and blush playing around with contouring my short but square face, I could go on and on about face shapes and how to contour but lets face it, there are tons of online resources for this information as well as figuring out your face shape and the best ways to contour your face. Someday when I have more time, I may take the time to sit down and take you through all the steps and explain how to contour and other makeup hints and tips that I learned, but now is not the time. 🙂

The Contour and Blush Palette are a lot of fun to create different looks with, and though I wouldn’t have chosen these colors for myself in the past, I would choose them now and I think these colors are neutral enough to work on just about any complexion.  The contour goes on just right… lighter or darker as you choose and you may also conceal with the same palette…although I  don’t use it for that, I use the lighter colors to layer highlight. I first use one of the light colors and then on top of it I use a shimmer color on top in some areas to highlight more.

I don’t believe in totally changing the shape of your face with contour however, natural beauty is in all shapes and sizes, my friends… so if you are like me and and love to play with makeup, save this contouring for formal pictures and anytime you maybe on camera or at a formal affair, then just make it subtle and check it from all sides in the lighting like you will be seen in to make sure it looks good and is blended well.

I then played with the lip palette, at first using my finger, you see I couldn’t wait. Then I was a good girl and reached for my lip brush, I found some gorgeous colors in there, some of which I thought were too dark until I mixed several of the colors together. I really love one of the dark frosted bronze color (far right bottom) and because it’s a tad to dark on me I love mixing it with the other lighter colors.  The Lip Palette of the 32 lip colors also contains some lip glosses in it, but it mostly contains lipsticks in the palette.

Anyway I have had a great time with my Contour & Blush Palette as well as the 32 Color Lip Palette and I continue to play with them still. The packaging is quite nice, however I would have preferred that the lip colors and contour and blush were in the palette case like the eyeshadows were in. The eyeshadow case, was both easier for me to open and it is comparatively easy to clean if you get any makeup on them. I tried windex and even rubbing alcohol to get them clean for the pictures I took, but I couldn’t clean it off well at all. However, that is only a small inconvenience and I don’t believe I will be taking further pictures of the cases in the conceivable future. lol And I must say that the cases are still rather lovely.

I would like to thank BH Cosmetics for their letting me try their products, and like their eyeshadows, I wasn’t disappointed with the quality and quantity of the products. Thank you BH Cosmetics.

Now for the fun part, we have wonderful Giveaway here folks!

Sorry the Giveaway has Ended!

Good Luck to all our friends!

TheraBreath’s TheraBritePlus Whitening

Edit, Added NEW Sale on the Whitening Kit for people reading this past review:

TheraBreath Whitening Offer – $9.99! Get a $49.99 TheraBreath PLUS Whitening Kit for Just $9.99. Click above to Buy.

I’ve had the pleasure of using one of TheraBreath’s Kits for Bad Breath and I simply love them. I am sure no one would have told me that I had bad breath, well other than my Mother, who once, 15 years ago, actually embarrassed me as she insisted that I breath at her nose in the middle of a store… she wanted to check my breath since she smelled something awful (hey I can laugh at it now, but back then I could have crawled in a hole since it WAS MY BREATH. BTW: Dry Mouth doesn’t help your breath either, as well as your teeth). TheraBreath toothpaste, Mouthwash and their little mint like tablets really help me, there is nothing like the confidence and security of knowing your breath is fresh.

Teeth Whitening (regular link, see edit on top of this post for the new SALE link).

TheraBreath’s product are not tested on animals, they are Vegan, and natural… for those of you who know me, you know by now that I always believe that we are all better safe then sorry with anything we put in or on our bodies!

Because of my using TheraBreath Toothpaste and Oral Rinse, I was familiar with the Company TheraBreath and when I was contacted to try their TheraBrite Plus Whitening I was tickled pink, I couldn’t wait to try it!

The Whitening product came in record time, far as shipping goes, these guys ship with great timing to my home, both times I’ve had items shipped I’ve been surprised at how fast they arrived to my door. Not to mention it arrived just on time for a big family get together, with our family scattered all across the country and my disabilities I hadn’t seen some of these people in about 25 years!Teeth Whitening Kit by TheraBreath

Now for some background on my teeth, I was a teenager once upon a time, believe it or not… lol And back in those ancient times we did have a few topical treatments, but mostly our pimples, yes my pimples were treated with antibiotics. Well antibiotics stain your teeth and stain them bad, and it’s embarrassing… now these products don’t claim to even touch teeth like mine with ages upon ages of antibiotics causing those stains, but who could blame a girl for trying?

Anyway the kit comes with those little syringes and trays like some store bought brands do… yes I’ve tried them all for YEARS and gotten little or no results. So I was fortunate enough to have had experience when it came to forming the trays to my teeth.  The trays are formed using hot water in a cup (heated in the microwave) to help soften the tray. Forming the tray to your teeth is the most difficult part of this whole tooth whitening experience, just take your time, read the directions and don’t worry,  if anything should go wrong they did include a 3rd tray! Yay! I didn’t need the 3rd one but it was nice to know that if I did something went wrong I had back up. 🙂

I proceeded to put in the whitening, just a drop in each area of the tray for the teeth and I used the little brush (so tiny shouldn’t we have a word like brushette? lol) to spread the gel around some. I really don’t think the brush is needed but I used it! Now the instructions say you can use this tray up to 4 hours and on the back it said something about 8 hours… so I braved it and since I had gotten used to wearing a mouth guard at night to keep myself from grinding my teeth and aggravating my TMJ, it was no problem at all wearing this while I slept. I did place an old towel on my pillow, because it did say to be careful not to swallow the gel, and once or twice I got rid of what I felt in my mouth at night onto the towel. lol  I am sure they wouldn’t recommend this but I slept in it for 7 1/2 hours 2 nights in a row. Wow the results were so exciting that I caught a glimpse of myself smiling in the mirror and my eyes lit up… now it didn’t totally get rid of the discoloration from the Antibiotics but for once my teeth were really showing progress! Wow!

I had a wonderful time at our family get together and wasn’t self conscious of my teeth, or my Breath! I think people may actually have pictures of me smiling for once! I never liked my smile, my eyes get all squinty and practically disappear, and my full cheeks look like a chipmunk when I smile, but worst of all, my teeth have been yellow and had antibiotic stains since my youth. I didn’t worry for once, as my teeth looked better than they have in ages. So if you see pictures of me floating around, knowing my family they will be… you may actually spot me with to toothy grin on my face. lol

I swear by TheraBreath and no wonder TheraBreath is America’s #1 Premium Oral Care Brand! Folks I simply adore the toothpaste and mouthwash for my fresh breath and my new love is their whitening system. Did I mention the whitening system came with some great breath mints? Yes! So nice, to trust your breath is as fresh as your new lovely smile.

I thank TheraBreath for giving me the opportunity to try out there TheraBrite Whitening System. Alas, I knew I forgot something when I started to test the product out. While in the rush to get everything ready for my cousin’s gift and preparing for the 50th Wedding Anniversary for my parents that same weekend, I forgot to take a before picture. But trust me the change is very noticeable and I am so very happy with my bright new smile! Thank you TheraBreath!

Now I smile as I am writing this and I hope you all take a chance to win something spectacular from TheraBreath, they are offering one lucky winner will receive 1 tube of TheraBrite toothpaste and 1 bottle of TheraBrite Oral Rinse!

Sorry the giveaway is ended… watch my sidebar for special savings from Therabreath, as I shall be monitoring them for myself & I love to share in any savings I find. 🙂

SpaRitual – Summer and Fall Nail Polish 2011 Collections

Written by: Riah
Summer 2011 Collection "Evolve" spa ritual

Hi there my friends, I’d like to show you a wonderful company that asked me to do a review for them, They are Spa Ritual. Wrote and offered to send me their New Summer 2011 Collection called “Evolve” and Their Fall 2011 Collection called “Wilde” to try out and do a review for your folks.

Spa Ritual’s Nail polishes are all formulated Vegan, Free of Dibutyl Phthalate(DBP), Formaldehyde and Toluene, these chemicals are called “The Big 3” there is a lot of debate over the issues and/or non issues of these chemicals in nail polishes. But I prefer to be safe, better safe then sorry. I will tell you that when I first became a Cosmetologist that we used Formaldehyde Tablets in our Drawers, so after all the scrubbing and chemical cleaning of our products we had what they called a dry sanitizer that we used in all our containers for everything in the Cosmetology industry. The powers that be had determined that the Formaldehyde we were using were a carcinogen, which means that it’s cancer causing.
I received my package in the mail with 12 beautiful bottles of nail polish in it, the first thing I noticed is the lovely “plum cap”, as they call it, it’s a nice rubberized like cap with ridges in it so that it’s non slip. As I pulled out the bottles I noticed the colors! These colors are fun I haven’t seen colors like this before in other lines.

The Summer Collection reminds me of the colors at the Beach, and the picture with their colors on their site and (seen just above) I believe that this is exactly what theme they had in mind for the Evolve Collection.
This is what these colors look like on me, I had colored my nails and realized that they had not sent me the full Summer “Evolve” Collection, the color twig was not included instead a color from their Imagine Collection called “Living in the Moment” was included and the Evolve “Twig” was not there:
Spa Rituals on Mariah's FingernailsSummer 2011 “Evolve Collection” Colors (except where noted), Left to Right: Pebble, Living in the Moment (Imagine Collection), Sacred Sands, Driftwood, Native Rock.
 Summer Collection 2011
Summer 2011 “Evolve Collection”, this color is the color “Moss”

The colors of the Summer Collection are pretty obvious by the pictures, I will tell you that the color “Living in the Moment” from the Imagine Collection and the color “Native Rock” from the Evolve Collection are pretty close in color in the bottle, when you put it on it’s obvious that the “Native Rock” is a shade or two paler with more of a Dusty Rose Gray (Gray with slight pink to it) background and  “Living in the Moment” is a tad Deeper with  a little bit more blue in the color.  The color Moss is a lovely sort of mint green.
 Fall2011
Fall 2011 Collection “Wilde” Colors from Left to Right Top to bottom: Sacred Ground, Instinct, Howl. Second Row from top: Running With Wolves, Spirit Child. Bottom: Rhythm of Life

I’d like to introduce you to a sneak peek of their Fall Collection (Above) , this collection is made up of the names: Howl, Spirit Child, Instinct, Sacred Ground, Rhythm of Life, Running with Wolves…. suppose their theme is Indian/Native American? These colors are all Shimmers and lovely and deep and sexy! The pictures don’t do these justice, Instinct is Purple with Blueish Shimmer, Spirit Child is Red with Gold Shimmer, Running With Wolves is Bronze with Gold Shimmer, Rhythm of Life is a Kelly Green with a lighter Green Shimmer, Howl is a Dark Charcoal at night and in daylight more of a the Darkest of Dark Chocolates with a Bronze Shimmer. These Shimmers are all quite Metallic looking the Sacred Ground has larger specks in the shimmer so it shows readily in any light.

Here are some pictures taken of me wearing the Wilde Collection, excuse the lighting please, shortly after the two pictures above of me wearing the Evolve Collection the skies darkened up and our thunderstorms started up.

Howl nail polish from Spa Ritual's Fall 2011 Collection
Fall 2011 Collection “Wilde” Color “Howl”
I really love these collections from SpaRituals, they are safe and quite resilient as before I’d taken these pictures I had been typing for quite a while. All in all I am very happy with the polishes, I even had a jar that was a little stuck and I must say that grip on the cap came in very handy on getting the polish open. 🙂

I’d like to thank SpaRitual for this chance to review all these polishes, they are so beautiful and so much fun to wear. Please Friends, check out SpaRituals, as I said in the beginning of this review, better safe then sorry and get a polish without “The Big 3” chemicals in them. SpaRitual can also be found on Twitter @SpaRitual and their Facebook link is: www.facebook.com/sparitual

EDIT (Noon Friday July 8, 2011):
I posted this review late last night, and it’s noon today & I’ve been typing and doing housework, even opened up a soda can… not a chip or sign of wear and tear on the nails at all! I have to tell you, it’s hard for companies to make a great Vegan Nail Polish without “The Big 3” chemicals in it successfully. I have to say that I’ve bought so many of the popular pro-grade polishes out there and this one is out shining them all! SpaRitual got their nail polish right!

Beauty What Is It – Thoughts For The Day

Beauty what is it to me exactly? Beauty what is it? is it genetics? what makes one truly beautiful?

The Definition of beauty at, YourDictionary.com

Beauty and My Blogging:

Lets start with the Definition of beauty from the link above. On my blog I shall be concentrating on aesthetic beauty for the most part, with products and how too’s for anything Skin, Nails and Hair related. I am after all a Former Cosmetologist. I will also be talking about health, which surely can influence both aesthetic beauty as well as how we feel inside (which too influences your beauty).

But from time to time I will be posting about beauty from the inside as well, as this is the most beautiful and important asset that anyone could have. I find that when a persons personality is so very lovely, I cannot describe the person by looks… because it’s their very soul that shines a beautiful light.

You are not ugly because you are not a size 0 society is ugly

I find it disturbing that girls and women alike compare themselves to airbrushed models, who are an unhealthy and an unrealistic size zero. So lets work with what we have, and work on the beauty within since this is the beauty that truly lasts as we age.

Here is a quote from a true Beauty Audrey Hepburn:

“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food wit
h the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.”
