Homemade Halloween Face Paint – Healthy Skin and Eye Popping Color

How to make homemade Halloween Face Paint that is Healthy for your Skin and yet has the boldest colors.

I am thinking about my Halloween Costume and Makeup as we proceed into the month of October.  Every Costume needs the face to go with it, forget the mask and create your own one of a kind look to go with your costume! Here, with the help from some friends and their generous permission to share their pictures, I will show you some ideas and how to make your own bold and beautiful face paint.

Store bought face paint not only tends to have diluted colors but they contain a ton of additives that are actually bad for your skin and shouldn’t be used again next year.

For those who are frugal minded, like me, there is more use than with store bought face paint. This is a mixture of products that women use every day (men and teens don’t miss out either with the Refresh), … so no waste! And the pigments can be put away for next year too!

I am super impressed with products by Younique, here is why:

This is why I love Younique Products

I am now an Independent Presenter for Younique and I some friends with Younique have shared their creations using the Pigments and Refreshed together to create face paint. Yes, you can use this professional grade intense Pigments and Refresh to create your own custom facepaint, not only will the colors be more intense than those bought at the store, but it is healthier for your skin than those store bought face paint.  You can also mix your pigments to create your own variations of color and let your artistic creations really pop!

My friend Debbie and her before and after, using Homemade Face Paint (the products used were all from Younique)

Here my friend Alesia, used the homemade mixture for healthy, vibrant face paint on her daughter, using the pigments and refreshed and the lashes were extended to super long with 3D Fiber lash!Halloween Face Paint Bold Pigment Healthy Skin 1

For the glamorous look, don’t forget to make those eyes pop too with the 3D Fiber Lash Mascara, it’s a wonderful 2 mascara tube kit that will make you forget about fussing with false eye lashes. And for those of you with oily eyelids, like mine, you won’t have to worry about them falling off or needing to carry the lash glue around with you and chance at it leaking in your purse, pocket or *cough cough COUGH* cleavage *cough* and have it leak and make a yucky sticky mess all over everything.

Here is another look from my friend Debbie, she also used Younique products to make her homemade Face Paint:

So there you go friends, some fun ideas for making your own face paint using Younique products! The pigments are highly pigmented so those colors are sure to pop, and mixing it with Refresh? Well there are a lot of great benefits to using Refresh here are some:

The Process of Removing Gemstones From Settings

Sponsor: Jewelers Refining Group, Inc.sparkling gem

Sometimes, it takes a combination of something old and something new to get the perfect ring. In some cases, people love a gemstone that is set in an old ring but want to update the ring itself. This may be triggered by a personal preference for a certain type of metal or the positioning of the stone in the old setting.

This is a process that is best left to professional jewelers. They have studied gemstones and know how to remove them without damaging them or changing their appearance. Some jewelers provide this service for free to those who have continually done business with them. Others may charge about $10 per stone. It is important to get prices before leaving the stone with a selected jeweler. No matter what they charge, they will likely ask to see the stone first to determine what must be done to remove it from its setting.

ring drawingMost jewelers use a process that allows them to melt the metal around the gemstone using a chemical. Then they carefully remove the gemstone from the chemical solution. They have to clean the gemstones after this process to make them safe for other uses. They do not discard the solution that contains the metal. Instead, they use another chemical to remove the fine metals from the first solution. Then they melt the metals into bars and measure the purity of the bars.

Although many people try to do this process at home themselves by pending the gemstone prongs and removing the stone, it is not recommended. This do-it-yourself technique does not preserve the stone. It defeats the purpose of removing the stone in the first place.

Growing Plum Crazy – Wordless Wednesday Pictures

We are Growing Plum Crazy here at our house, thanks to some tips and tricks I found online. The plum tree has been a sad story for the past 2 years, since we moved into this little house. Now it’s Growing Plum Crazy with Plums! Yay!

I found a tip that told me to hang old CD’s on the tree… birds are afraid of shiny things. Done.

Next I realized that I had to address the insects. I sprayed the tree down with a spray bottle of this Organic solution: 1 Tablespoon of Castile Soap to 1 Gallon of water, respraying for every day for a week, and then after heavy rain fall.

The results, the branches are so full of plums that I have to go to that tree and tie up the branches, they are almost to the ground!

Okay now for the Wordless Wednesday Part:

Glide Thru Detangling Brush – Review & Giveaway

Howdy Folks! I have a Glide Thru Detangling Brush all my own and I am going to be giving one away too! Yay!

I was fortunate enough to win a Glide Thru Detangling Brush and Crave Naturals sent me a message in Twitter, asking me for my information on shipping me my prize. I instead asked them if they could hold my prize and if, instead of mailing it out to me, I could give it away on my blog. Crave Naturals being the wonderful company that they are did me one better! They offered to not only let me give one away, but to send me one to review as well… Okay, can I say that I am IN LOVE (once again) with Crave Naturals? Well, I AM! 🙂

Glide Thru Detangling Brush You may recall a recent review in which I mentioned Crave Naturals. They are the makers of my favorite Eyelash Curler, “Whiplash” (you can see my review of their Eyelash Curler HERE). And just like the Whiplash, the Glide Thru is another very wonderful product by Crave Naturals. I have baby fine hair and, as most of my fellow Cosmetologists said, when they cut and/or styled my hair, I have more than 2 full heads of hair on my noggin. lol As I am sure you can imagine, someone just breathing in the same room as me can mess up my hair and it tangles easily. Imagine a head of hair like mine and what a mess I have to deal with every morning upon awaking! Yes horrible.

My hair has always been like this, and I recall crying as a child as my Mother would try to brush through the rats nest (snarls, tangles, whatever you want to call it)… just thinking of it the sounds of the torn out hair, breakage etc rings in my ears. OH, wait a minute, it’s because that sound is still pretty familiar, until about a month ago when I received my own Glide Thru Detangling Brush, no wonder why the thought brought back the sounds like it was yesterday.

My Mother did try that No More Tangles product, and all that did was leave my hair oily and made it get dirty easily. Finally my Mother had my Aunt cut my hair into a Pixie Cut, oh how I cried, “I look like a boy!” My poor Aunt and poor Mom, her arms must have been tired!

Glide Thru Detangling Brush and Box it came in The Glide Thru Detangling Brush has saved my arms, my scalp and my hair from breaking off. The brush is easy to use, it has a nice ergonomic handle, that can be used in both the right and left hand comfortably. I like the way it sits in my right hand best and would love to see the style of the handle set up the opposite way for us lefties, but it is actually very comfortable in the left hand. I just think that just the thumb up on the bristle area of the brush is a slightly more natural and comfortable position, since I am a lefty (for the most part) I find myself holding the brush with all my fingers up at the bristle area and not on the handle when I try to brush with my left hand.

Want to know the easiest way to use this brush on children’s hair? Start brushing near the ends/tips on the hair, brushing downward. Slowly work your way up (perhaps an inch or two at a time), always brushing downward from that next inch or so up on the hair and all the way thru to the ends each time. You will hear less crying while you’re getting rid of those nasty tangles. Lets face it children’s scalps are more sensitive than ours.

  • The Glide Thru Detangling Brush is so great for the hair, it doesn’t have the little nibs that stick out of other plastic bristle brushes that grab at and clench over your hair, causing damage.
  • This Brush is so safe that you can use it on wet or dry hair!
  • It does work very well adding a gloss to your hair, especially when used on wet hair.
  • It is best that you don’t use an “all in one” shampoo and conditioner with this, use it with your rinse out or leave in conditioner (or weekly reconstructive conditioner) as an assist.
  • This brush does work with all hair types, be it thick, thin, damaged, chemically treated or virgin hair (virgin hair is hair that has not had ANY chemical treatments, perm, relaxer, color treatments)…
  • also would work great on hair that is curly, straight or anything in between.

For the Cosmetologists & Stylists out there, this would be a perfect addition to your brushes and combs! <- if you know or have a wonderful hairdresser, this would make a great gift as a tip and a thank you for their wonderful service!

National Corset Day – Corset Review

Hi all, Happy National Corset Day! I was fortunate and received an invite for a Corset Review. Here is the lovely black under the bust Corset that I am reviewing today.

I cannot model this beauty as unfortunately. Although I measured for it and observed the size suggestions on this beauty, it came too small. I ordered according to my size and measurements, but the measurements and size chart appear to be off. And here I thought that the sizing, being XL sounded too big, since in ladies tops I wear a medium or if tight around the chest and not stretchy I then wear a large to compensate for my bust.  With this corset I didn’t need to worry about the bust, just the under-bust measurement, waist and for the heck of it I measured the hips, though the Corset doesn’t go to my hips at all, as it rests just above the hip.

Anyway, I promised Tmart and the wonderfully patient people there, that I would run a review for them and so here it is.

Tmarts Black under bust satin corsetCorset Review:

The Corset came packaged in an large envelope and at first I was worried as to how it held up in shipping. Opening it up, the quality of the Corset and the panty that came with it was, to my surprise, even more lovely than the pictures on their website! The Corset held up just fantastic in shipping as the boning was not brittle and there were no breaks of the boning to be found.

Upon examining the product for this Corset Review, I found the stitch-work on this Corset was fantastic and the quality of the satin material is nice and thick. This Corset is perfect for a sweet deal such as the prices are at Tmart. The Corset is beautifully lined. The boning is sewn into the Corset secure. Upon feeling above the boning there are no sharp edges to poke you while wearing this beauty. The front closures of the corset lock nicely, upon inspection.

Marked Waist Area to properly lace up
Before trying to add to the original ribbon with some of mine, I unlaced the corset and marked (with lace) the area that the cinching loop should be on the corset. The area marked is where my waist is in the corset.

I tried to get into the corset and realized that, even after loosening the lacing, the area where you cinch the corset up (would be the waist area, ideally) was too high up. And that the corset, although fully loosened needed to have more ribbon as the corset is too small. Both of these things mean that I had to relace the corset to get the best corsetry size wise (to compensate for the rib cage area) and so I can set the loops (that you pull to tighten the corset) at the proper waist line area.

My Recommendations, with this Corset:

1: For better lacing, that won’t slip when more tightly cinched (the satin ribbon does slip and sites online will even tell you that for serious lacing, you need to get away from the ribbon for lacing). The alternative lacings, to replace the satin ribbon, do tend not to be as pretty as the satin lacing is. So for decorative over-wear and for light corseting, go with this lovely lace… or how about a contrasting lace to go with the outfit underneath. Red satin would be fun, don’t you think?

Using Poly Satin Ribbon scortch cut edge2: If you change your lacing or need to add to it, do a search online and find out how to properly lace up your corset. This is my favorite How To Lace a Corset post (I found this after I realized I was lacing mine wrong). If you decide to go with some additional satin ribbon to lace up your corset, use a match or lighter and scorch the end of the ribbon so that the ribbon doesn’t fray on you.

Mariah realized the corset lacing was wrong
Oops, while re-lacing the corset with extra satin ribbon, I realized I had it all wrong. And to top it off, this is as far as I could get lacing it as my hands and arms are bad.

3: If you don’t have help cinching up the corset, look online for some nice videos that show you how to self cinch the corset. There are some great instructions that you will find online

I love the fact that this Corset has nice flexible boning in it. When I tried it on (without the laces done up correctly), I didn’t notice the boning coming out of any seams (like some not well made corsets may have), nor did the boning poke at me anywhere. The boning is flexible yet strong enough to help hold you beautifully when you cinch the Corset up.

When ordering a Corset through Tmart, I do recommend that you go up a size, if your measurements are on the upper side of the measurement table, as the items are made a bit small. This way you may actually wear this beautiful Corset as a ready to wear item, without changes.

I am so sorry that I cannot model this for you, as it doesn’t fit… and saddened that I cannot currently wear the corset.

Would I recommend Tmarts Corsets?

Yes I would! What I love about many of their offerings is that they could easily go above or under your clothing! The quality of the corset is much better than I expected for a product that is so reasonably priced!

My only disappointment, is a big one for me, but a lesson learned that I can pass on to you… It was just the wrong size, so please listen to my advice as to measuring for the corset, if you are at the upper part of the measurement chart for your sizing, please just go up one size and I bet your corset will arrive ready to wear right out of the mailbox! 🙂

I thank Tmart for being so patient and for intrusting me with the review of their corset.
