Got The Creative Bug – Classes and Workshops – Review

I have the Creative Bug lately and I had an invitation to try out a Month of Creativebug Classes and Workshops for a review. What wonderful timing as my stress has been maximized as of late, and any number of fun DIY Crafting Projects can distract me. Now I was a latecomer to the Month of classes, just reviewing about 4 or 5 class videos today and accomplishing one craft project today. But wow, what a well needed break for the creativity that seems to be lacking in my life lately. After all crafting is second nature to me since I was raised on all sorts of DIY Craft projects in my creative family, my parents are artists and they kept us 6 kids pretty busy with crafting and DIY projects.
Creative Video Workshops on Creativebug.com
The classes that I looked at were for a “found necklace,” basically an upcycling project with beads from jewelry, friends will know that I love to collect old jewelry and beads. Family knows that I have done this since I was a little girl, but I have to say that I learned a few new things such as what to do with the tail from the filament you tie to the clasps.

I also looked at a really cool project for Image Transfers too. I have my packing tape set aside here as I am going to immerse myself in one of the 3 methods of Image Transfers she shows us how to do in her video. I can’t wait to find the perfect colored magazine page to use for this one! Yay!

I glimpsed at the bracelet crocheted with beads, cool… however I don’t have the cord that it called for in materials and my embroidery floss is MIA at this time, hiding in the deepest darkest recesses of some poor neglected moving box at this time.

Finally for my first project I was extremely inspired to dig out my Shrinky Dink Printable “paper”, and play with it for the first time in about 5 years. Oh, I don’t think it counts that this past Winter I just used Shrinky Dinks for making luggage tags for my trip to Florida to see my friend Joan, I really didn’t play with it, it was just something I figured I needed spur of the moment, then night before leaving. lol

What Shrinky Dinks at my age? Yes I love that stuff! I knew exactly what I was aiming for, and I had just the perfect picture to make into an outline in the picture/photo editor program. It was about an hour and suddenly I remembered how to get a good outline out of my colored picture, I used to do this for the Tattooists in the Tattoo Shop my husband and his partner had owned for a few years. Nice to know I haven’t forgotten all those old skills and it came in handy again. lol

In the Shrinky Dink Jewelry Class, I did learn some unique hints and tips from the video and it helped out so much better than the instructions that came with the Shrinky Dinks. I won’t spoil it for you, you will need to join Creative Bug to learn for yourself.Honestly Mariah Shrinky Dink Jewelry

My problem with my printer/copier is that it only prints in black… So I had to spend many hours with my detailed design to have it ready for the oven. And when the design curled up and folded itself it seems that the lovely Victorian Lady in the middle turned into The Freak Show Bearded Lady as the pencil marks or the ink smeared just perfectly on her face, before the Shrinky Dink flattened out again. lol

But all in all, this does look quite pretty, don’t you think? Now I have to decide it the original idea of putting two holes in it for jump-rings is what I want or to attach it to a Barrette Blank (or make it into a brooch) … oh and then figure out who would love a bearded lady piece of jewelry. lol Oh and I added to my design an outline around it some gold leafing permanent ink from a pen to further enhance the design.
All A La Carte Classes $9.99
So much fun, a project that is normally thought of as only for children, was revisited by me once again. Five years ago, I did have fun making Christmas gifts for everyone, it was about time I revisited this old favorite for fun once more.

CreativeBug’s offering are such a wide variety, from beginning sewing to advanced knitting and kids crafts too! Creativebug has a class to inspire your creative side. And the classes can be purchases A La Carte or as part of a Subscription… Subscriptions would make great gifts, for the crafter in your life. Better yet, make homemade gifts from these classes and workshops, these gifts are the best gifts, as they come from your own hands and your own heart!

Thank you to CreativeBug for helping me find a way to relax and have so much fun I lose track of time! What a stress relief for me.

Now, who wants to buy a Victorian Freak Show Bearded Lady piece of jewelry? It’s ONE OF A KIND (that’s for sure!). I will finish it (or you can) and I will sign the back of it too. Do I hear $25.00? Hey, can you blame a girl for asking? lol

I’ve Got Big Balls! Ice Ball Mold – Review

Ice Ball Mold Review

Howdy folks, today I wish to introduce you to an Ice Ball Mold, by StyloPhora. I received a package containing 3 of these unique ice molds. The molds are nice and cushy to the squeeze, seeming a little thinner on the very top. The molds have a line on them, so that you know where to stop filling them. And the package included a funnel and instructions.

My husband couldn’t wait to try them out and freeze some ice for us. Looking at the molds in the freezer, the ice went just up to the hole in the top when frozen, perfect! I used one of the ice balls on a flavored drink and one on Two Fingers of Whiskey for my husband.

Ice ball molds and supplies and frozen

Goodness Gracious Great Balls of ICE!

The ice seemed to melt more slowly than normal ice cubes and so it didn’t water down the drinks as fast, however the ice balls made the drinks cold quite quickly. Do I have to say it? Okay I will, the ice balls look so very cool! Not to mention that the Ice Ball Molds by StyloPhora are Giant! They appear to be about 2 1/2 inches big with my measuring tape. I've got Big Ice Balls

.Coffee Ice ball in glass of milk

Next I decided that I needed to make iced coffee. After I made coffee, I cooled it down quickly. I put the coffee into a glass measuring cup and put the measuring cup into a bowl of ice. Then once it had cooled nicely, I added it to the ice balls. Its not that the ice balls wouldn’t take hot coffee, but that I don’t want to put anything hot in the freezer and I was in a hurry to try this (other wise the refrigerator or let sit to cool would have worked). I decided it would be a great idea to take this coffee ice ball and place it in milk. YUMMY! 🙂 Just make sure the milk isn’t expired, lol, the one I did the first time was and I was shocked! Lol

I took one of the frozen ice balls and put it in the dogs water dish, I heard that they love to play with them in there. I filmed it after I chased the youngest of my dogs down 3 times as he stole the ice ball out of his water dish and brought it out onto the rug in the living room, dropped in on the wood floor rolling it around trying to get it into his kennel and once he picked it up and putting it on my husband’s recliner hoping to just lick it there. Lol Silly dog took advantage of the fact that my husband got up to assist me, placing the Ice Ball back in the dogs dish, so that I could film him playing with it. Lol

Leave it to the younger of our two dogs to cause a lot of laughter as he discovers a new “toy” to play with.

What is the secret to creating a perfectly clear ball of ice? When you order the Ice Ball Mold, you will receive a secret code so that you can learn how in a video. 🙂 I am currently writing this as I freeze a perfect Ice Ball without those air-bubbles that cloud up the ice. We will see if I managed to do it right? Well not 100%, I didn’t have one of the things used in the trick so I substituted another and I have to say to follow their instructions on this secret EXACTLY! I ended up with an oblong Ice Ball and most of the ice was clear, and we usually have that particular item around the house but we just used it up very recently. lol

Shared Positivity Review And Giveaway

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

Alexa's Angels inspired designsI was so very fortunate to have been asked to review a set of 3 bracelets. What is so special about these bracelets? They bring with them a message of positivity and sharing that positivity as well. I am a firm believer in trying to let myself find the positive in so many situations, and passing on that feeling… whether it be smiling at a stranger, laughing with a friend and trying to bring hope to them when they are feeling down or hopeless.

What an appropriate name for the company that is spreading the message of positivity, “Alexa’s Angels”

positivity bracelet closed tissue paper in box pink

I received my box from Alexa’s Angels in no time at all and instantly as I opened up the box, I found myself so impressed with the presentation of the bracelets. Inside the plain cardboard box I found myself staring at (and trying not to rip) a beautifully wrapped gift like presentation, as I saw the pink tissue paper closed with a golden “Alexa’s Angels inspired designs” sticker. Beneath the sticker was a lovely message that stated:

“We are all angels with only one wing – we can fly only embracing each other”

Sweet huh? Yes, I thought you’d like that after all, you my beautiful followers, tend to be so much like me and you find yourself touched by lovely quotes and loving messages, like this. 🙂

Alexa's Angels Box with positivity bracelet enclosed

Once I opened the tissue paper I was greeted by lovely pink paper “grass” and a lovely little box that contained the beautiful set of 3 elegantly simple bracelets in a shear golden bag. The message on the bracelet is simply the words positivity (spelled “posi+ivi+y”). I love all the plus signs used instead of the “t’s” in the word… I thought the word was so creatively thought out and is spelled out on the silver toned metal area of these bracelets. The band is much like a “tie back” for the hair, like I keep saying elegantly simple and simply elegant… that is my reaction to these bracelets. And the first person I shared this with was my mother, and she too agreed with me, she simply loves wearing her bracelet! The third bracelet I plan to mail off to a friend that in a support group that my friend Joan and I started (Women Supporting Women) had mentioned her message about positivity. How wonderful for that old friend to mention living life with positive thought and her timing was perfect, I knew then that I would sending her a bracelet too! 🙂

Different Colors of Positivity Bracelets

Alexa’s Angels has a nice selection of different colored bracelets from the black bracelets, like my Mother and I are wearing, to light pink and 6 vivid colors. They also have some school/team two-toned colors as well. As Alexa’s Angels says:

“They are a great way to build team spirit and support a good cause.”

“See them all at http://alexas-angels.com/product-category/collection/positivity/?orderby=price

Oh and I almost forgot, the reverse side of the bracelet has a wonderful link on it, if you follow the link: http://www.shareyourpositivity.org, you will find a website where you can read or publicly share inspirational stories, photos, and quotes.

Speaking of positivity, and inspirational stories… I will share something I find inspirational with you.

My Mother loves the message as well as I do (and you wondered where I got my positive attitude to life, with all the health complications and chronic pain I go through… now you know, I got it from my Mother! Lol). As many of you may recall, my Mother went into surgery about a year ago and suddenly during surgery they lost the nerve connections to the legs and my Mother has become a paraplegic. Throughout all my Mother has been through, I’ve found her strength to be very inspirational and surprisingly she’s remained so positive. Even as my Mother is currently dealing with 3 infections, and some sores, taking 5 antibiotics, she is amazing as she takes all of the news in stride and that woman’s strength as she remains positive, is just inspirational to me. The most amazing part is that she is so positive even though life has slowed this once very active woman down and is now basically bed ridden. My Mother is truly an inspiration to me and I hope that I can continue to be a positive person despite all that my illnesses may bring my way and that I may have the strength that my Mother shows.

Attitude is a choice message
The message that is enclosed in the Posi+ivi+y Bracelet Card.

I cannot close this off without mentioning how amazing my Father is too, all the things he’s taken upon himself and still he too remains positive through it all. I am truly lucky, I have two very inspirational parents that have taught me to look at life from a positive perspective and I hope that I can help be an inspiration to others, like they have been for me.

Set of 3 positivity braceletsYou, my beautiful friends/readers, may win a set of 3 of these little lovelies for yourself and some people that inspire you or wish to inspire to be positive too! This is a speedy giveaway here my friends, so enter now…

Valentines Day – Homemade No Knead Bread.

I wanted to share this with you all, I made a recipe for Homemade No Knead Bread for Valentines week. This is not a quick bread, by any means, it is made with Yeast (not baking powder or baking soda… nor is it quick, but it’s easy!) This fortunately makes 2 loaves, the first loaf is half gone and I just finished making this No Knead Bread late last night! lol I received this little booklet as a gift and I finally made a recipe from this yesterday.

Homemade No Knead Bread
Yummy yummy!

While I was thinking about the success I had with this Homemade No Knead Yeast Bread, I thought about how much my husband loves homemade bread and that it is indeed the perfect baked good for Valentines week. And the ingredients were all in my kitchen already, so I didn’t have to shop special for the recipe I used.

I wore my Flirty Apron while making my bread:
Women's Apron Very Cherry

I warn you, though it’s easy, next time I would make it a day or two before I plan to bake it, it takes a long time for this bread to “Self Knead” and It took about 11 hours before I could bake this delicious bread.

I love homemade bread, but suffering from Chronic Pain, kneading can drive you to use up all your spoons if you are a spoonie like me (follow this link, if you don’t know what a spoonie is. The link shows the Spoonie Theory, and other posts dealing with Spoonies, like adding a spoon to your profile pictures.)

Anywho… I wanted to share this recipe with you and let you know my experience & the results from this strange new way of making yeast bread.

A personal Review, the book with this recipe in it is:

“The breadbreakthrough”(yes one word) and the subtitle states: Easy Recipes. Dough Kneads Itself

Now this little paperback booklet was a gift to me, from my Mother who, along with my Dad love the no knead recipes for homemade bread.

The results are a dense, crunchy exterior crust and a super moist, dense crumb (interior of the bread). And eaten hot from the oven it is simply to die for, especially if  you use real butter on top! 🙂

Here is the Recipe I used:

What is left of one of the two loaves of bread that I made. Nummy! Only half the loaf remains.
What is left of one of the two loaves of bread that I made. Nummy! Only half the loaf remains.

Easy Oat Bread (No Knead Bread)

Yield: 2 Medium Loaves

Ingredients:

key: C = Cup(s), tsp = teaspoon(s), T = Tablespoon(s)

5 1/2 C (27.5 Ounces) – Unbleached All Purpose White Flour or unbleached white bread flour, plus more as needed.

1 C – Old Fashioned rolled oats or quick-cooking (not instant) oats, plus 4 Tablespoons for Garnish.

3 T – Granulated Sugar

Scant 2 3/4 tsp – table salt

1 tsp – Rapid Rise Yeast

1/4 C – Clover honey or Light (mild) Molasses

1/4 C – Corn Oil or Other Flavorless Vegetable Oil, plus extra for coating dough top and baking pans. (I used Canola Oil, coated the pans with Crisco and used Canola Spray for the top of the loaves while rising)

2 1/4 C plus 2 T Ice Water (yes you read that right), plus more if needed.

In a large bowl, thoroughly stir together the,  all but 1 Cup of the flour, oats, sugar, salt and yeast. (I say all but 1 Cup of the flour because the original recipe had you use all the flour… making the dough impossible to stir, and later on it said to incorporate the flour a bit at a time.)

In a medium bowl or measuring cup, thoroughly whisk the honey (or molasses) and oil together. Add the honey/oil mixture into the ice water. (now I had made the mistake of adding the ice water to the honey and oil, without mixing the honey and oil first… big mistake, I ended up with the honey stuck in a semi solid clump to the whisk. So I changed this to read the way it worked best for me.)

Add your water, oil, honey mixture to the flour mixture in a large bowl until thoroughly blended. Make sure you have all the flour mixture coated and at this point, if needed, add more water. You will have a dough that is thick and difficult to stir, but still you should be able to stir this… don’t over moisten.

Brush or spray the top of the dough with oil. Cover the bowl with oiled plastic wrap. For the best flavor, the author of this recipe recommends, refrigerating the dough for 3 to 10 hours. Then let rise at cool room temperature for 12 to 18 hours; if convenient, vigorously stir once during the rise. Since it seemed to hint at this first rise not being necessary, I only let it rise in the fridge for 3 hours, then set it out for about 30 minutes to warm up a bit and make it easier to stir (then straight out of the fridge).

Vigorously stir the dough. If needed, stir in enough more flour to yield a hard-to-stir consistency.

Generously oil two 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch loaf pans. My loaf pans are slightly larger, it still worked but the rise of the bread was slightly lower then the recommended height for the second raising. I also used Crisco (yeah, I know, so bad for you, but it’s thicker then the oil and worked great for the oats that go over the pan coating).

Take your 1 T of Oats and coat the bottom and sides of the 2 pans (I actually used more so it coated all over nicely).

Use well oiled kitchen shears or serrated knife to cut the dough in half. Put the dough portions in the prepared pans. Press down the dough and smooth oiled spatula or hands. Sprinkle loaves with Oat and press down to imbed. Made a 1/2 inch deep slash length-wise down the center of both loaves (again using your well oiled kitchen shears or serrated knife). Tightly cover the loaf pans with well oiled plastic wrap.

Let Rise Using Any of the Methods Below:

For a 2 – 3 hr regular rise, let stand at warm room temperature, for 45 mins to 2 hrs.

Accelerated rise – let sand in a turned off microwave along with 1 cup of boiling water.

Extended Rise (what I will use next time) – refrigerate, covered for 4 to 24 hours, then set out at room temp.

With all Rise options: Continue to rise until the dough gets near the plastic wrap. Remove the plastic wrap and continue to let rise until the dough reaches 1/2 inch above rim. If you are using slightly larger loaf pans, like I did, I let it rise until it just reached the rim.

Lower Oven Rack to about the lower 1/3 of the oven, then Preheat your oven to 375.

Bake for 50 – 60 mins, until the tops are well browned. Cover the tops with foil. Then back for 10 to 15 mins more, until a skewer inserted in the thickest part comes out with just a few particles clinging to the bottom. (now I used the traditional, knock on the bread and listen for the hollow sound, that I was used to… either way, the loaves turned out great!)

Now, remove from pan and once cooled a few minutes, slice a piece off and butter it and say mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! 😉

__________________________________________________

I hope you like the recipe, I have altered it for what I did when I made the bread (along with the original options). All in all the recipe was easy, however next time I make this, I will do a majority of the work a day ahead of time. But what a wonderful way to a mans heart, but through baking some yummy homemade bread and why not give the No Knead Yeast Bread a try?

Women's Apron Sassy Black

Oh and I found a the exact apron that I was gifted a couple of years ago, so cute! Personally I would not have chosen the black and white one, but I love love love it and the ties are soooooooo long, these aprons could fit anyone that I know, big or small!

Comments, or questions (as always) are welcome! 🙂

Disclaimer: I was gifted the book that this recipe was from, by my family. I am sharing this recipe (altered to show the way it worked for me). and I did not receive this recipe, book (or the mentioned aprons for a review,) these were gifts that I wished to share with you all.
