Help for Crowd-Funding Projects – Book Review

Hacking, Kickstarter, Indiegogo (how to raise big bucks in 30 days on a budget) by Patrice Williams Marks

Hi there friends, the title of the book “Hacking, Kickstarter, Indiegogo (how to raise big bucks in 30 days)” by Patrice Williams Marks, caught my eye when I saw it on Tomoson. And I was hooked when read the description of  the book:

FACT: Over 65% of crowd funding projects fail. Why? Top 5 Reason’s For Failure:

1) Campaign Missing Key Elements
2) Launched Before Gathering Their Tribe
3) Expected That if They Build It, They Will Come
4) Poor Advertising/Social Media Strategy
5) Lack of Partners

Hacking Kickstarter, Indiegogo (or any other crowd-funding site) How to Raise Big Bucks in 30 Days
walks you step by step into the process of creating, launching and wrapping your project.

– How Curated Communities can give you added exposure

– How to get featured in Kickstarter and Indiegogo’s newsletters (solid gold)

– How to grab funders attention the moment they land on your page

– How to generate traffic to your project

– How to easily find and target bloggers and journalist who want to publicize your project

– and much more!

Tried and true tactics, tips and secrets that work.

The rest is history as I felt that I simply had to apply to review the book, not only for myself but for some people that I know would be interested in a good book on this topic. For those folks that I know will be checking this post out, I just had to let them know what I thought of the book…. lucky me my application to review the book was accepted.

Crowd-Funding Projects are a mystery to most, but not to me, not any longer.

Now I had very limited understanding of crowd-funded projects, until I read this book. I had seen a project like this in action a few years ago. “Twig the Fairy,”a beautiful lady (that I follow on Facebook) that dresses up as a Fairy and travels around the country appearing in Renaissance Fairs. Twig had used Kickstarter for her Fairy Book for Children. I couldn’t contribute anything but share the updates and information with all my followers on facebook & in emails… hey every little bit helps. This was the limit of my experience/understanding of these crowd-funding projects.

Although I didn’t understand how this all works, I did know that I have 3 or 4 people following my blog that could use some information on this… for all I know many more of you can use this information too!

You and your product no longer need to sit waiting for a wealthy benefactor to contribute to the productions realization.

In this book you will find all that you need to assist you in fulfilling those financing needs… WELL that is IF you manage to get noticed! Getting Noticed is one of the most important things that this book talks about.

Welcome to the world of online Crowd-funded Projects

You may be wondering what Kickstarter and Indiegogo are, well they are only 2 of the many sites online tailored towards the crowd-funded projects. To name some of the other sites offering such services there are also Mobcaster, Rockethub and GoFundMe.

In the book “Hacking Kickstarter, Indigogo (how to raise big bucks in 30 days)” you may notice Patrice referring to Kickstart Projects frequently. If you choose another site for your Crowd-Funding Projects, never fear, this informative book will be just as valid with any of the other sites.

The best way to use this book?

Obviously the best way would be to use it before you start your campaign… however… The book is so very thorough that it is still valid for those already in their campaign!

Patrice take you by the hand and shows you around the big wide world of Crowd-Funding Projects…

Patrice guides you through building your “Tribe,” as she calls it, all the way to the end of your Campaign. All the important research has been done for you, in this book and what is even better than someone researching and advising you in a book, is that the author has practical experience in these hints, tips and Secrets that she shares with you!

After reading this book, I felt like a warm and caring new friend just patiently explained everything that anyone would need to know about Crowd-Funding Projects. I found this book extremely easy to read, and hard to put down. The Author describes what you need or should do, she has set up links throughout the book for examples of what she is talking about. She also takes you by the hand, if your Campaign should happen to fail, and she gives you the tools you need to assist you on getting back on the proverbial horse.

I have to tell you that my head is still swimming with all the information that I found contained in this book. I do see what a pain it must have been for Patrice to wade through the oceans of sites to find just the right ones for her book examples and all those great Secrets that she shares… you gotta love it that all the leg work has been done for you!

This is not one of those books that you read once and never return to. I just don’t see myself  getting rid of this treasure trove of information! I can see myself coming back to it again and again to read through this book.

I chose to get the book from iTunes and as I read I started adding in the little red bookmarks (though I don’t know much about ibooks from itunes, I don’t even know if there is a way to go directly to my little red bookmarks). I do plan to go back now and start again from the very beginning and take notes for myself and my future use.

For people wishing to take on the endeavor of creating a Crowd-Funded Campaign, keep in mind, it’s not an easy task… nothing worth while is, is it? You have a ton of work ahead of you and if you follow this book step by step, I don’t feel you will be just another of the many fish in the sea, I firmly believe that you will get yourself noticed and this is exactly what you need when you are trying to get people to help fund your project.

Writers of the Future – Review & Giveaway

In some of my free time, I’ve been taking the time to relax and enjoy a wonderful book lately “Writers of the Future Volume 29.”

My copy of L Ron Hubbard presents Writers of the Future volume 29
My copy of Writers of the Future Volume 29

I was very honored to have received an invitation to attend this years awards Ceremony, at the Ebell Theater in Los Angeles, to honor these talented Writers and Illustrators who won the Annual Contest for Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend with my financial constraints I couldn’t manage to swing flying out to witness this fantastic event in person. I really would have love to have seen it in person, I got goosebumps watching the Ceremony on YouTube! What an event… it felt just like I was told about the event & winning the contest, “It is like the “American Idol” of Science Fiction & Fantasy authors.”

I was lucky enough to view the video of the Ceremony online on YouTube, I won’t send you there, it was the full Awards Ceremony. The awards started just short of halfway through the video, but before that portion of the Ceremony, I loved the song in the opening. And I really enjoyed the story told by L. Ron Hubbard of his research for his stories. L. Ron Hubbard participated in so many adventures of his own so that he could really write about those things that he knew about. To find this video you can search youtube for Writers of the Future 2013 or Volume 29. 🙂

Below is Grand Winners portion of the Ceremony, just to keep this brief for you.

Although I wasn’t able to attend this wonderful Celebration and blog about my great adventure to a wonderful awards ceremony, I CAN blog about the book that was offered to me at the same time as the offer to attend the celebration. I can share with you a little idea of what you can find in this book, and give you an idea of the far away places that these Science Fiction & Fantasy writers took me to.

“Turn the page . . . open your eyes . . . and look into the future. . . .
They unleash the power of dreams and unlock the secrets of the universe. . . .
They bend time, twist perception, and put a new spin on the laws of physics….
They show us who we are, what we may become, and how far we can go.
They are the Writers and Illustrators of the Future. Experience their vision.”

I have been taken to a world in which your death isn’t the end of you as you can be brought back with your memories backed up and hopefully they were backed up not to far from the time in which you had died. And I watched as the main character took on a very dangerous mission after waking up (after his death) in a body that was not his own.

I have traveled with some men as they fly through space checking out planets, as of yet unfamiliar to us, to see if intelligent life exists there. I’ve seen the inhabitants of the planets and in horror saw the damages they have caused to the travelers. I saw the damaged body parts get replaced, bit by bit and heard descriptions of other people that had been contaminated by the planets they have visited and had to be kept secluded from the rest of the planet for the rest of their lives.

These two stories above where just the first two of many wonderful stories that I have fully immersed myself in, yes so fully that you will note that I wrote the above like I was truly there with the characters or as if these stories were from a movie that I viewed. 🙂 There are many more to read from these Winners of the 29th Annual Achievement Awards for the Writers and Illustrators of the future… yes and I can’t forget the book contains the pictures (in black and white) by the winning Illustrators for the stories that they were made for.

writers of the future volume 29

The writers and illustrators are so wonderful that winners from the past awards have gone on to be very successful writers and illustrators… and some have recently won such awards as Hugo, Nebula and World Fantasy awards. I recall hearing (while I watched the Ceremony online) that one of the illustrators was doing story boards for Charlie Sheen’s New TV Series “Anger Management” and another illustrator had worked with the movie “Ice Age”… honestly so many accomplishments from so many of the past winners that I am surprised the lady announcing them had time to take a breath and that she didn’t need to take a break for a sip of water during the ceremony, if you watched the ceremony you will realize that she hardly took a break while speaking during this part. lol

I have enjoyed reading this book while filling my time waiting in the doctors office while either waiting for my husband to get out of his appointment or while I am waiting for my doctors appointment, and doing some late night unwinding, when it’s been an especially crazy or painful day and I cannot sleep. Having ADD I must have true quiet in my humble little home for my true enjoyment and immersing myself into a book and with this book I insisted upon it receiving my full attention… I cannot tell you how rare it is for me to find a book so fascinating that from story to story I find it keeping my undivided interest as I read from one story to another (each one story has a different author) to the next authors story and experience the authors world from their own imagination.

I highly recommend this book and I am pleased to announce that the book is available at these Stores below:

Win A $100 Lowes Gift Card This Week – Giveaway

Lowest Gift Card, I added the Text $100 Gift Card to it to show quickly what people could win. I have a wonderful Giveaway for you,  we are giving away a $100 Lowes Gift Card this week!

It is in honor of a new book, Start, by Jon Acuff that was just released.  The sponsor of this giveaway that we are participating in , says that “Everyone I know who has read it, has loved it!” Cool, the book sounds wonderful, I believe I should read this book myself!

Start by Jon Acuff
This book is really good at showing how you stop living an ordinary life and get your passions “unstuck”. I love the comment on the front of the book “Punch Fear in the Face,” after all what holds us back typically is Fear itself! I know that I have lived a super cautious life, being sensitive I fear failure… so much so that only with my friend Joan’s persistence in asking me to help her run a review and giveaway blog, did I finally take that leap. What was I afraid of? Failure, embarrassment, and yes even disappointing Joan, as I too am quite sick, like she is… thanks to my friend I did take one highly successful leap. I wouldn’t be doing this today without my friend Joan, getting me started 2 years ago and I wouldn’t have discovered that I could “do this.” And I wouldn’t be out doing this now on my own if it weren’t for the encouragement from my family and husband… I have fear, and I know it, you may identify with fear holding you back too, if so this book sounds like a fantastic way to encourage you to take those risks in your life.

The great thing is that this books topic could be applied to nearly ANY passion.

To enter, simply click on the “Answer a Question about START” in the box below and follow the directions.

If you have a twitter account, you can even get an extra entry into the contest each day. This Giveaway ends in just over in just a few days, so don’t wait, ENTER NOW folks! 🙂
