  1. My dog Jack is a Frisbee Freak! He is obsessed with his favorite game. I have to play a full game with him at least once a day, usually more. He makes up his own rules to the game and sort of teaches them to me! He’s hilariously earnest and focused! Frisbee savant! πŸ™‚

  2. I don’t know if I have ever mentioned this to you, but a little more than a year ago, Jack was attacked outside our house. It was around 11pm and I heard him barking outside, then I heard a growl and a yelp. I called him in and he came inside behaving strangely. I realized blood was just falling out of his head…HUGE mess, and it scared me half to death! Turned out that he had been stabbed several times in the head and face, one slash going right between his teeth and through his upper palette. We don’t know what happened, exactly, but I believe he thwarted a robbery or other break-in attempt…and paid the price for it, the poor boy. It was horrific, to say the least.

It was very scary, and he had a difficult recovery following some surgery and stitches, but he’s completely fine today!

    1. Wow, what a fright, good dog! So sad he paid like that, but no one goes around with a knife like that with good intentions, he may have saved you all Heather!

  3. I had been fostering Harvey, an adorable poodle, for several weeks. I was so proud of him, he had made great strides in overcoming his anxiety and shyness. He loved his walks!
One day I put his harness on, got his leash out, and grabbed a poo bag. Then I got distracted, and we didn’t leave immediately. Poor Harvey was spinning in circles with excitement. Finally he cocked his head at me, ran off, and grabbed my sunglasses off the coffee table and brought them to me. He was obviously saying “NOW can we go?” Clever boy!

  4. My cat Boots waits for my husband and I to come home from work everyday. He is either in the living room window or at the door, waiting for us.

  5. My cat Odin spent at least 7 years living outside with a colony. He had an old injury in one eye, and had developed glaucoma in the other. A rescue took him in, then sent him to another, and finally we got him. The vet’s best estimate was that he was around 15 years old when we got him. Two years later, and one eye less, and he is a happy, healthy, indoor kitty.

  6. I have always believed that my dog Jack shows signs of a sort of canine autism. He has difficulty communicating naturally–with humans and other dogs–and did seem to understand or tolerate affection or other social rewards as a puppy. He is also obsessive about his ‘thing’, frisbee, and develops elaborate rules and rituals regarding it. I have worked with him all his life and we have conquered nearly all of these and other issues, and he is very loving and affectionate with me (but not others). His strange focus has actually worked for us, and he is very effective as a service dog, which has been a huge blessing. We walk without a lead; he carries a frisbee in his mouth and trots right behind my wheelchair. He ignores absolutely everything but me, and people are always amazed at how well-behaved he is. If they only knew the work that went into that! I’m very proud of my smart and special boy!

By the way, years ago I couldn’t find ANYTHING about canine autism, but I recently discovered that it IS being diagnosed in dogs. It’s controversial, as it often is in humans, but it’s out there.

  7. Though my girl Bruin does not like to be too close to people, she is always perched just a few feet away from me. I think this is her way of showing she loves me.

  8. My cat does really weird stuff. He will run through the house like his tail is on fire for no reason and he will chatter at the birds.
