Ergonomic Pen Uglee Pen – Review

Hi there folks, I was fortunate enough to receive 3 Uglee Pens, the Ergonomic Pen, for a review on the blog. I am so thankful that they sent 3 of these pens, this avoided marital strife at home since my husband would get jealous of this great pen.

Disclaimer: Mariah Lockwood personally reviewed this product. I received a Professional Skin Care System for this review. I was under no obligation to review it if I so chose. Nor was I under any obligation to write a positive review or sponsor a product giveaway in return.. All opinions are mine and belong to me solely. My thoughts and opinions may differ from yours. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commissions 16 CFR, Part 255 Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising. The photo's used in this review were provided by ToiletTree and me.I personally have had terrible problems with my hands do in part to my Raynaud’s Syndrome as well as the Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and the nerve damage in my neck that extends down into my hands. My hands don’t like to cooperate with holding things and they cramp up easily as well.

For my husband he has Arthritis in his hands as well as Gout that is not only in his feet, when it flares, but now his hands as well. So my husband has assisted me in reviewing the uglee pens. Yay it’s always nice to get another opinion to share with you.

Writing Grocerly List with the Uglee PenUsing the Uglee Pen:

I found the Uglee Pen quite comfortable, when I first received it I found it sticky and that I didn’t care for, I found myself picking dog hairs and my own hairs off the grip. The ink flows freely from this pen and the roller ball wasn’t stiff. I love working with the pen and with more use I found the grip was no longer sticky, Although the hairs from my long haired Dachshund continue to stick to the grip, but it’s no big deal at all.

I noticed that the top of the pen was loose one day and I realized that you can take the pen apart and refill the pen, I tested it with several pen innards and they worked just fine inside of the pen, however the roller balls that release the ink in one of my pens just doesn’t flow as nice as the one that came with the Uglee Pen.

Uglee Pen Taken Apart

The Uglee pen gave me no difficulty writing sideways, as I start my grocery lists, by taking notes on the refrigerator. Here is a picture of my polishing up the grocery list with my Uglee Pen.

Uglee Pen Experiences from my husband:

In his life time he learned to write very hard, writing through multiple copies of paperwork at once (good old carbon copies). So his first reaction while using the Uglee Pen was that it’s very narrow under the grip and so the pen bends as he uses it. He let me know that perhaps Military, Police and Security Persons may find the pen bend for them too, if they still need to use carbon copies of their writing.

Otherwise my husband loves the pen, he feels that perhaps it’s being sticky can be solved quickly with a little bit of soap and water, if it bothers you (it was too late to try it with mine as I had used them enough that they are no longer sticky). He also found that the grip is very nice, however almost too forgiving.

In Conclusion:

Uglee Pen in my Cup next to my laptopAll in all the Uglee Pens work exactly as promised, they make writing comfortable and the glide easily on paper. They may start off sticky on the grip area, but that goes away with use. We love our Uglee Pens here! And I now have an Uglee Pen sitting in my cup next to where I work on my laptop, one sits by my husband at all times and I carry one in my purse for use while I am out and about.

Thank you Uglee Pens for entrusting me with the review of their product. I apologize for the wait on the review… between my husband’s heart surgery (that suddenly came up) and my Mother’s Health Problems, the review got pushed aside for a while. Wordless Wednesday – Mariah’s Artwork handpainted Sign

Mariah's Artwork, handpainted Lockwood sign hanging up
My Artwork… I love making this sign for our new house, we finally hung it up outside. It’s a shame that “clear” varnish is rarely ever clear, this Marine Varnish has a brown tinge to it (as most do) so it dulled the colors and left brownish streaks. But it still looks pretty good, at least I think so. 🙂

Essentia Hydrating Water – Review & Giveaway

My Introduction to Essentia Super Hydrating Water:

Hi all, I was contacted, a while back, by Essentia Water, a Company that produces bottled water with properties that are very new to me, as they say it’s Super Hydrating Water. When they told me some about their water in their request for a review and giveaway on my blog, I couldn’t help but say “Yes.”

Essentia water logo super hydrating water

What was it in their email invite that captured my attention?

Here are some quotes from the email that I received:

“Essentia is the No. 1 selling bottled water in the natural foods channel and is sold nationwide in retailers like Whole Foods. After reviewing your blog, it seems like a great fit your audience…”

“Essentia is different from other high pH brands and the enhanced waters that simply add minerals to their water. Essentia removes acidic ions and increases the alkaline earth minerals resulting in an optimal higher pH of 9.5 and therefore faster hydration. Drinking Essentia can neutralize the body’s acidic condition and restores it to a more balanced state. High acidity can result in loss bone density, muscle and strength and can impact critical organs like the kidneys.”

“Essentia is the No. 1 selling bottled water in the natural foods channel and is sold nationwide in retailers like Whole Foods. After reviewing your blog, it seems like a great fit your audience…”

Of course I was flatterted that they found me online ad decided to contact me via my blog to do a review, that was a a big plus for me. 🙂

Isn’t water just water?

Next, being skeptical I did my research reading the fact sheet that they enclosed in their email and highlighting what sounded interesting and the questions that I had. I then did my research online, all before replying, after all water? Why is this water so special, how do I go about reviewing water?

Is the pH truly beneficial or just some snake oil being sold for just being unique? Well my reading the fact sheet that was sent to me by Essentia Water, and with my research online, I found that the product may just be truly beneficial in so many ways.

essentia water picture of the sizes that are soldI want to share with you some of the interesting information that I garnered:

(from my reading their fact sheet and online research online.)

The Fact Sheet from Essential Water:

While reading the fact sheet I learned about this process being first developed in Japan, and that in the 1960’s “Functional Water” had been approved for Medical Therapeutics by Japan’s Ministry of Health and Rehabilitation. And in 1997 Essentia acquired the rights to use the proprietary technology. Upon acquiring the rights, they improved and refined the process for mass production, using a process called Ionic Separation Technology (IST). The improved Technology results in “ultra-pure, non-source dependent water, using a special electrolyte formula and electrolysis process to produce an ideal pH.

Direct Quotes from their Fact Sheet:

Most bottled waters have a pH factor of 7.0, which is neutral. Most human bodies are in a highly acidic state due to factors like stress, diet and harmful environmental contaminants. Over time, a high level of acidity can result in a loss of bone density, muscle strength, and can also negatively impact critical organs such as the kidneys.

Consuming an optimally alkaline, high-pH water helps to neutralize the body’s ongoing acidic condition and restore it to a more balanced state. Conventional thinking in health and wellness community is that disease and infection cannot live in an alkaline environment.

Okay interest is peaked:

But what sort of Therapeutics do others have to say about this?

I found some online information (at: from a 2001 Water Conference at Columbia Univeristy about the what health conditions that this sort of water is reported to help out:

A brief scan on this information in their Conference got me hooked and here is a quote:

The Japanese and Russians have used electrolysis in combination with ion separation to produce functional waters with a wide range of beneficial properties for over 200 applications [4, 5]. For example, since 1966 the Japanese have been drinking electrolyzed alkaline water to increase and enhance calcium absorption. Approximately 15 million Japanese now drink this water.   The Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare has certified that alkaline electrolyzed water (a reducing water) assists in the alleviation of gastrointestinal disorders, acidosis, chronic diarrhea, and poor digestion.

I also read in the information from the conference how importance of hydration & how functional water may help:

There is Functional Medicine and Functional Food, so why not Functional Water. Functional water can be defined as water that produces a positive health benefit. If we look at the basic functions of water in the body, such as solvent, lubricant, nutrient delivery, waste removal, and most of all, enabling almost all key biological processes (i.e., life), it is clear that water produces a positive health benefit. One example of an historical version of functional water is the mineral water used at spas for internal and external health benefits. Another example is the addition of fluorides to drinking water, which is supposed to produce a positive dental benefit (when calcium fluoride is used, not sodium fluoride, which is the chemical used mostly by local water companies). Not everyone agrees that fluoride in any form is beneficial.

If we want to see the health benefits of water, just look at what the lack of sufficient water in the body (dehydration) can cause [2]:

  1. Increased risk of kidney stones.
  2. Increased risk of urinary tract cancers.

  3. Increased risk of colon cancer.
  4. Increased risk of breast cancer

Some people feel that many of our health problems are due to chronic dehydration, and that proper hydration alone would cure many of our common diseases [3].

Okay enough of the research now… I don’t want to bore you, but I am naturally curious about products like this and being a skeptic, I had to know what I was getting into. Though you may find the above boring and too technical it helped me decide to give it a whirl and I suppose a few people only may want to know this information as well and so I’ve done the research for them.

Now, let me tell you about my experiences with Essentia Hydrating Water.

Blog Size Day 1 painting bird with Essentia Water Refilling my Essentia water bottle with larger Essentia Water
Day one while painting the birdhouse in some terrible heat. I refilled my smaller size bottle with the larger size of Essentia Water.

I drank my Essentia Water, while doing yard work outside and sitting in the “Man Cave/Storage” area of our garage. Trust me the dry heat here in Colorado can be very dangerous, you don’t know you’ve over done it on these hot days, such as that days I drank the Essentia Hydrating Water. My house and our separate garage that contains the “Man Cave” don’t have any cooling, other then fans. As a result of not having any cooling and my health issues, I get dehydrated easily, especially on the days that I drank my Essentia Water, when the temperatures reached well over the mid 90’s.

What did I notice with Essentia Water while I drank it?

Well first off, I noticed the flavor, the flavor is much like the wonderful flavor of the water up at my Mom and Dad’s house in the mountains, where their water is from a natural spring that goes into their well. I have often said that, when there is plenty of water in their well (through the droughts they get it filled by another source) I will bring up a 5 gallon carboy and fill it with their water for me to drink. The taste cannot be described but I know it’s full of natural minerals and so tasty!

Day 2 painting with Essentia Water Refilling my Essentia water bottle with larger Essentia Water
Day 2, still working on my painting the birdhouse, and still drinking Essentia Water. It helped on day 1, and continues to help me deal with the extreme heat.

I also noticed that while I was drinking it, that I didn’t get sick from the heat, I avoided dehydration better then I do with regular water, when I can drink regular water until I fill myself up with it and still get sick from the heat. I found that I can drink less water and keep myself hydrated. Of course I also had the option of those sports drinks to hydrate myself, but they are filled with terrible tasting stuff. Besides as a Representative of Essentia told me:

Essentia goes through a 3-step process that infuses your body with electrolytes and minerals that are filled with calcium, magnesium, sodium and and potassium Plus, it tastes great!

My thoughts… well… it does, taste great and it helped keep me hydrated! 🙂

Day 2 Later painting with Essentia Water Refilling my Essentia water bottle with larger Essentia Water
Day 2, later at night, even another refill of Essentia Water into my bottle and still enjoying not becoming dehydrated. Yay, it works and I love the taste!

We all know how important it is to be hydrated and I have now found something that not only tastes great but seems to work well with saving me from dehydration with my work done inside the house and outside, even in the cooler area of the Man Cave/Storage area. Without AC or a swamp cooler, we suffer here with the heat, especially in a brick house that seems to radiate the heat inward, even as it cools off outside. I have noticed that I don’t get dizzy and a headache, the shakes and nausea that I get from the heat, remember that Colorado is Semi-aired in climate and we are even more susceptible, than most to the heat and effects of dehydration.

I also gave some to my husband pre-heart surgery, feeling it would help him out as he went for a day without eating and a time without some of his medications. He liked the taste of it too and we don’t know if it helped him or not, but I wanted to make sure he had something good in him, since he couldn’t eat.

All in all, the claims that they make about Essentia Water, I don’t know about most of them, but I do know that it helped very well with the days of heat well into the 90’s (almost 100 degrees, I think that one day that I drank it, it was 102 however) and I didn’t have any of the side effects of dehydration. I hope to be able to stock up on this water for those extra hot days.

Speaking of stocking up, Essentia Water can be bought at (below is a list from their fact sheet):

Plus Size Clothing – Alight Review & Giveaway

I have a wonderful review of plus size clothing for you from a wonderful company that I’ve worked with in the past, Alight. You can read my past review of their clothing HERE. I was fortunate enough to be accepted for another review and giveaway for you lovely plus sized women out there in internet land. – the best in plus size fashion sizes 14-28! As Seen In: Glamour, InStyle, Business Week, The New York Times and moreFor my review I received a lovely top from them that is perfectly airy for with a summer top underneath it and there are so many ways to wear it. It looks great with a white short sleeved top under it, or a purple tank top, this would be perfect for any time of the year. I also think that if the side ties hit you at your waist, like it did with me, it would be perfect belted. I have to say that this top is perfect for summer for me, since I don’t like the show “my wings” (the flabby back side of my arms as a result of my weight loss of 50 lbs, 3 years ago). In these sweltering hot days of summer, I feel so very enclosed in most of my clothing that hides those upper arm “wings” it’s stifling… however with this top I feel free, breezy and cool as the delicate fabric lets air circulate and keeps me cool and fashionable.

Mariah In Alight Shirt with white shirt underneath. This was taken earlier in the day before some chores, these colors are more true than the next pictures of me in the top.

I can see this top for all seasons, a smart choice for back to school as well since there are so very many ways to wear it. Wear a top like this with a skirt, over a short sleeved dress, with dress pants or jeans. How about dressing it up with nice jewelry for a change, pearls would look fantastic with this for a real classic way to dress up, how about long chained necklace or a choker, in silver, gold, black or any color that goes with the multiple colors that are in a top like this?

Picture Mariah of Oh Honestly Mariah modeling shirt
modeling shirt from Alight. lol You can tell I was using the remote to try and take my own pictures.

And for a top with this particular blouse, how about a beautiful camisole? Make it lacy or a filmy silk or satin, in coordinating colors or a simple white or cream color. Now looking through their website I didn’t find this top, I found some other gorgeous tops that would work just the same way. Nothing like a filmy top that will work for all seasons, just change what you wear underneath it, how about a long sleeved t-shirt or a tight light weight sweater or a turtle neck.

Me with my Shirt on… Feels like Rain? You can tell that this picture and the other one was taken later in the day, almost sunset…. strange what that does to the colors with my camera

A lot of the items I found at Alight could be grouped with multiple other items in their store to make many outfits with just a shirt or two, a dress, a skirt, pants, leggings and a cute shrug. This is THE WAY to shop for back to school, whether it be college or High School, or for us Mom’s out there, why not treat yourself to back to school celebration clothing too and be the hottest, coolest Mom around? We cannot forget to take care of ourselves some too. 🙂

A light weight breezy top from Alight, it's called "Just Great Top"
One of the tops I’ve been drooling over on Alight’s website.

I love to sew on my sewing machines (when I find the time), in the past I’ve done everything on my sewing machines, from sewing my own clothing to sewing my curtains. I even had my sewing in the county fair in Minnesota as a teenager and I had many complements on my sewing by the judges, though I don’t recall my receiving any ribbons for it…lol Anyway I had to check out things on this top, to share with you as well, below are my findings.

a brownish/rust dress very 70's look
On the Casual Dress Side… a nice relaxed 70’s appeal. Gotta love the gathering right under the bust, for the Gals with a bit of a tummy it will hide it and accent the bust.
Mixed Up Dress
Pretty in Pink with the “Mixed Up Dress” that I found at Alight… very beautiful and summery. Add a pink shrug or cardigan and it will see you through Fall and Spring too.
Olive Floral Gardens Dress
Perfect for the Holidays, any Occasion in which you’d want to dress up. An evening out, Anniversary’s and would look great for a Fall Mother of the Bride.
Pink Craze Cardigan
This would look great with the “Mixed Up Dress” as seen above. Don’t you just LOVE Pink?
Red Red Rose Gown
A beautiful Gown, I see it for Proms, Homecoming Dances, and Pair it with a nice Black, Red or White Shrug and why not wear it for Christmas! Shouldn’t every Woman have a Red Dress? I think so… there are lovely shorter red dresses at Alight too!

Red Strapless Jeweled Bodice Fitted Gown
Now this is what I dream of wearing one day. Isn’t this just the perfect show stopper for a Fancy Dress Occasion. This was a last minute addition tp to the blog… so the name of the dress isn’t on the picture. This is also on Alight’s Website and it’s called: Red Strapless Jeweled Bodice Fitted Gown.

I checked the seams on my beautiful new top, and they are pure perfection, sewn just right, not a missing stitch nor was the stitching crooked in any way. This top could not possibly be a second, though with the great prices at Alight I wouldn’t have been surprised if they had bought seconds to sell. The material itself is perfect as well, the fabric’s design isn’t miss printed or any areas of it didn’t seem to be pulled or sparse in threading.

I found some great plus size dresses at Alight, and I couldn’t believe the selection, alight has really grown since I last visited their site. Below are just a few examples of the dresses that really caught my eye.
