So many beautiful people doing Makeup Tutorials…

Wow, it’s been a while since I sat down and watched several hours of makeup tutorials on You-tube, via my Tivo, but I did it again tonight. Now I remember my hesitation on doing the same. All of these women, big or small, black, white and everything in between are all so very young and so very beautiful! Not only could I not hold a candle to their beauty, but I am much older then they are, I don’t have any fancy makeup (and my collection is very small)…. not to mention that I don’t have a web cam or a video camera. lol Now I see why I don’t run out and buy one right away for my favorite “me time” activity… yes I still am that little girl inside that loves to play with makeup and play dress up, although now I hide to do it for the most part.

Well that is all I actually wanted to say in this early morning post, just a note, basically to remind myself why I am not on a video doing fun things… it’s because I would possibly never post them out of embarrassment. I mean, wow have you seen their collections… really have you? I am worried however on how these ladies are managing to keep up such an extensive collection and still manage to throw them out when the time on there cosmetics is up! Most of their makeup being gone ever 2 years… I doubt it!!!! Come on now gals!!! I am speaking to the pros and armatures alike, you really need to take a deep breath, and find what works for your personal collection and stick with as much as you can manage to give up in their allotted expiration time from open to spoiled and possibly bacteria laden. Don’t try to convince me that your Mom’s and Dad’s would be willing to replenish all that EVEN IF it were only every 2 years… lets face it mascaras, foundation, lipstick and glosses… they get replaced all the sooner then the 2 year mark. I will locate my chart on my desktop computer later and edit my post here to show the real time limits on opened makeup.

Am I jealous of what they have? HECK YA!! I am a former Cosmetologist and I love love love everything beauty, and would love to do nothing more then sit in front of a makeup mirror and play for months on end with everything, if I were given the chance. Now if only I could find a way to earn some extra coins online, then perhaps I would consider buying some of these expensive highly pigmented and gorgeous makeup, brushes and the omg so beautiful eyeshadows. We will see if my crafts or my paintings may someday sell and make this poor gal a few coins… then we will see. Until then rest assured that I will not be scaring off all of you and your children any time soon my imaginary viewers of the internet.

Good night… errrr Morning (yup sure enough after 2am) from this gal who is in enough pain that she cannot sleep, but who got a moments escape watching videos from the comfort of her high back loveseat (supportive for a bad/painful neck).

Luv, hugs -n- kisses

Family Book, writing my portion…. about my thoughts on the subject

Last year I received a big Manila envelope from my Mother, what was in it? The typical stuff, that is typical for my Mothers mailings, it’s always a smörgåsbord of odds and ends in her mailings. I received copies of some of her recipe cards, some of them favorites of mine and some she newly discovered… some copies of articles concerning Systemic Lupus, Fibromyalgia and Cervical Vertebra newest surgical info and so on. What was so unusual about this envelope was  that it also contained a questionnaire for a Family Book that she wants to make.
I struggled to think of a single thing to put down in this book answering all the questions, strange how I am finding this a struggle. I struggled long enough and time went by… the list of questions plagued me for a while… of course during a move this Spring (in which the original paperwork got lost, still packed up in a box somewhere) I thought of some perfectly fun and funny answers for this, but of course it was during a move and no notes were taken. Well, Mother decided that half of the children replied and she would place in a brief statement for us other 3 kids and print up the book. Well here it is months and months later, not only has it not been printed, but now we must answer the questions in a week! *sigh*
Fascinating how the mind works… when not under a time limit I could think of things that would be perfect but they are all gone in a Fibro Fog of sorts, flying away with the winds of time and lack of brain power… the brain is already overwhelmed trying to take care of my pain levels that have been through the roof as of late.
I can go through my memories of my childhood, early adulthood and Marriage… the questions of favorite childhood memories sad to say are a bundle of little pieces, that gives me a headache as I try and push them to the surface. The problem is that one memory is not a favorite over the others and why am I taking this so seriously? Well, I regretably haven’t had children of my own, (perhaps do to my Systemic Lupus) I won’t be much of a story or memory to others when I pass on. I want my words to have meaning, to show my sense of humor, some of what made me the me that I am today and to have some words of wisdom in them… evidently its too much to ask of this brain of mine in exhaustive pain? What am I to do?
I will not plague generations of the family with the struggles of  being poor & disabled with crippling pain, the struggles of not having a home to call your own but dealing with slum lords and messes of others at your front door, the struggles of barely getting by and the heartache of not taking a trip to see relatives who live far away etc etc. But I would really love it if some questions were asked about how to get by, or what advice we’d give others on getting by. I think I have been given, by my Parental Units (yes I am showing my age… yay Coneheads!), the knowledge and tools to get me through more successfully then others manage on so little. I sew (thus my blog: Sew What, Darn it) and craft, make my own soaps (laundry and dishwasher and leftover soaps get collected to make new soaps), I make my own many things (mostly out of old clothing, buttons, beads from friends jewelry that had fallen apart and they were going to toss etc etc) and so people generally think I am better off then I am. But they never see my mess of an Apartment as these things I do (and rarely do them)… it take up both energy, of which I have in rare supply (just thinking and talking on some days takes up what energies I do have) and takes up room. The lack of energy leads to lack of energy for much more then dinner and dishes and lack of room all add up to this messy little apartment. Alas I diverge… forgive me, the powers of ramblings are after all my biggest strength… or is it that ADD? 😛
Well my ramblings are more personal today then ever, I feel I am writing to my diary… it is a big wide world out there and this blog is but a tiny little piece of dust, and so I have hit the “publish post” button and placed my dust particle in the winds of the Internet… where it lands, it’s hard to say…but I know it’s there, with my ramblings

Well, this will probably be edited and polished up in the furture… I am not focusing well at all today and worse yet, I am in a hurry.

Love, hugs & kisses

Ooopsies, Sewing, Patterns, old tshirts and other Rambles.

So sorry this blog isn’t looking the best right now, I messed with all the background colors and am having a rough time figuring how to edit old posts so that the color of the background (just behind the text) is transparent. The rest of the colors I have messed with are looking good though… nice base colors, thus far, for a start.
Forgive the growing pains here, we hope to talk sewing, darning and such soon… between my pain levels (my Fibromyalgia, Systemic Lupus (SLE), my cervical spine (major problems), AND house hunting, I have been slow going at this. Hopefully I will be in my own house in the next month or two and the sewing/craft room will be my sanctuary once more.
Some good news, about a month ago I bought some new patterns, some fun, some Renaissance Style Costumes for myself, some Unisex Pajama Patterns and some nighties… oh and one really fun looking pair of “wrap around” like pants in a pattern. Every sewing pattern bought is made for comfort since my husband and I are both disabled and so home comfort is of utmost importance… well still a bit of style thrown in so we can answer our door or walk the dog without needing to change or cover up.
I plan to work on some tshirts that are lost causes, stain wise, and decorate them and document the different things I do to them here.
here is a sample of what I have done with some old tshirts, this is my homemade invention… a stringy rag rug for my bathroom:
Mr. Peanut, my long haired dapple dachshund is ever at my side, here  he is laying on my homemade invention, a stringy tshirt rag rug.
So the above isn’t quite sewing, more crafting, but I just needed to post for some silly rambling reasons, that I am sure no one wants to hear.
Ok enough distractions have happened since I started to write this, so I really must go.

So What’s that New Bar Code type thingy on your blog?

Thank you so much for visiting my blog, I hope I don’t bore you silly. 🙂

Today I added a QR Code to my Blog, I found some very easy instructions here:
Sample QR Code

What does a QR Code look like and what is it used for? The QR Code looks like a bar code, but instead of being a rectangle full of lines, it’s a strange looking little black and white box with squigglys in it, (see my sample above). Some sites online (and I even on some store bought products, next to the bar code) are using this so you can easily visit their websites on your smartphone. smartphone.

How to use this QR Code:

  1. First, you need a smart phone with Internet access.
  2. Next you will need an application to read the code. I just bought a Samsung Vibrant (Currently a BOGO at T-Mobile, what a fantastic deal on these smart phones by the way) and I downloaded a “bar code” reading app, that works for Android based phones. The one I grabbed is called “BarcodeS” , it was free in the “Marketplace” (probably T-Mobile Marketplace) and it not only reads bar codes (and checks online for best prices) but it reads QR Codes as well.  There are many more applications, I am sure that will read this, I just named the one from personal experience. ANYHOW (now you see why I have a Blog called Riah Rambles)
  3. And finally all you need to do is use your Application by aiming your camera at the QR Code… wait a moment as it reads it and Wolla, you should be able to go to the very page you were viewing on your Computer or in a pamphlet or on packaging etc… Nice and easy huh? Yup it’s that easy!

Now I must go onto my other Blogs to add the html code in for the QR Codes…wish me luck, it’s a painful day and I am a bit distracted with my terrible pain level right now. (ok so I cheated, after adding this first to my blog “The Beauty Bloggery” I’ve copied, pasted and changed just a little bit… hey, what can I say? I am not as stupid as I look, even distracted with my terrible pain level. So I think I did good… so do I get a cookie or a gold star? Pretty please?)

<3, hugs and kisses!
